Chapter 76

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

Three days later..

It's already been three days since Terri went into a coma. Seeing her lying in that hospital bed is killing me... Because I feel like it's my fault why she's there... Don had Terri move to Peterson Hospital the one beside Finway High and it's the same one that Mom, Debby, and Terri all work at. The doctors are saying that Terri busted the back of her head open on the left side just above her Cerebellum which means her muscle control, balance, movement, and other cognitive functions shouldn't be affected but they don't know if Terri is gonna be the same she was before the accident she has a moderate to severe brain injury. They can't tell us how this is gonna go... She could wake up and be fine or she could not be able to speak or walk, or worse she may never wake up... She's not on life support because she is breathing on her own. Terri is a very strong woman and we all know that she's gonna pull through this. But as I've said before we may be powerful but none of us are invincible. Today is Monday, January 11, 1988; I have been here every day after school, Kyle and I stayed the night with Don here in the room on Thursday and Friday then Jane and Jason stayed the weekend. Jesse is with Don's parents, Terri's parents have been here off and on but they have no say over her because she's married to Don but they know she's taken care of. Seeing her parents cry is heartbreaking... Also because I blame myself for what happened... But Kyle, Don, and everybody else have told me not to blame myself that Terri wouldn't want me to because it wasn't my fault that it was Heather's. Julia is fine if you're wondering. Sorry everything with Terri happened so fast... We had to get her to help right away her head was busted open and she was bleeding out on the concrete... After Jane called 911 I went inside the College of Art and told Dakota, Kelly, and Mandi what happened to Terri and for Kelly to teleport up there and get Julia. Kelly said that Julia was scared when she saw her teleport up there but Kelly brought Dakota with her and Julia relaxed. Kelly teleported them back down and Dakota drove Julia to her apartment where they talked all night. Julia didn't have much memory of what happened but what she did faintly see while coming to was Terri being blown off the roof Julia said she keeps having nightmares about it watching Terri fall over and over again replaying in her mind as she sleeps. Julia also seems to understand our secrets more now after being possessed. She apologized to Dakota and said that she was just scared that she knew we would never hurt her but Kelly and Mandi are ones that Julia is still afraid of. Dakota assured her that they would not hurt her and that if they tried we would make them pay. Julia has asked to see Terri at the hospital and we're are going on the 13th. I'm in Honors Calculus with Kat and Kyle trying to pay attention but every time I do I think of Terri in that hospital bed. I feel myself getting upset as I start to cry. I get up from my desk and walk down the row. I walk down the steps and I can see Professor Gaines watching me with sympathy in her eyes as I stormed out of the classroom she knows what happened to Terri well what we told everyone else that can't know the truth. I walk out and turn left down the hallway and down to the women's bathroom. I walk in and I exclaim as I stand at the sinks breaking down. As I hold the sink staring down into it I sob uncontrollably. I hear the bathroom door open, I look over and see Kat standing there as the door gently closes behind her. She walks up to me and she pulls me into a big hug as I exclaim continuing to break down. She holds me for a little while then we look at each other. She holds my face with her hands as I'm still crying. I said as I cried " Kat... I feel so horrible... I can't help but blame myself for what happened to Terri.. what if she doesn't wake up??" Kat is still holding my face as she stares at me with tears streaming down her face. She said " You can't keep blaming yourself Kim... Terri wouldn't want you to.. and she's gonna wake up.. we all know how hard-headed she is".. Kat chuckles a little. I said as I cried " It's just killing me because Terri is so special to me and Jane.. We've known her since before we could even open our eyes".. Kat said as she held my arms " She was your babysitter and she didn't leave when you two grew up.. she became like a bestfriend to you guys and bestfriends always have each other's back no matter what".. I said as I cried " Mom and Debby are a wreck... God.. it's just so hard for me not to feel this way.. until Terri wakes up I will not be fine".. Kat said, " She's gonna wake up Kim.. We just gonna pray and hope for the best". We walk back to class and sit down listening to Professor Gaines teach. There is also another thing going on, the police have become suspicious about Terri's accident and have dug deeper into finding out who we all are. They dug up Terri's hospital visit last year for a broken nose and a concussion first they questioned Don because he's the husband thinking he hurt Terri. But Don got angry and told them to fuck off and that he has never put his hands on her they asked him to take a lie detector test and he did. Obviously, he passed. They continued digging and found out that Debby and I took Terri to the hospital so they questioned us and asked us to take a lie detector test and we passed. But they still weren't satisfied. Even though we passed you could see that they were still suspicious so they started questioning everyone Terri knew then someone from the hospital mentioned that Mom and Terri had been arguing the day that she came to the hospital with a broken nose and concussion. So they turned their attention to Mom and questioned her they gave her a test and she failed it which made them more suspicious of her. But she didn't show any signs of deception she only failed because she was nervous and knew she was the reason Terri went to the hospital that time. So the police have a "theory" that Mom knocked Terri over the head to " finish her" off. Mom told them the truth that she and Terri disagreed about a lesbian encounter Terri had while she was in College and yes they got into a fistfight. They asked that Mom hated Terri's encounter so much that it caused her to beat her? and why someone who is a black belt in Karate brutally beat a woman who doesn't have any experience in Karate. Mom told them she didn't use Karate on Terri when they fought but they didn't look convinced. Things aren't looking good for Mom and Terri is the only one who can get her out of this.. If she doesn't wake up they are gonna arrest Mom... Then I lose them both and I don't think I can live with that..
