Chapter 32

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

Jane was rushed to the hospital and treated for her stab wound. Evian stabbed her with an old Case XX pocket knife the blade wasn't huge but it went in between Jane's ribs and stopped before it punctured her lung. It went deep and caused a lot of bleeding but Jane's power of Peak human durability is what saved her. Because her bones are more dense and tough than a normal human being so that's why her lung wasn't punctured I also have this power. She spent hours in the hospital as Jason and I waited anxiously. She was released and with four stitches and the doctors said she's not to return to school for two weeks until she's healed and to take it easy. The police was there at the hospital asking questions. We told them the truth that Evian started it by throwing the football at Jane and that she had enough and punched her. Jane showed them the bruise on her stomach from the football to show prove that Evian hit her with it. They asked if Jane wanted to file charges she said yes and told them what Evian's twin sister tried to do to her a while back and that Jane fought her off with mine and Kelly's help. We had to lie about us vanquishing Erin so we said that she fled town without a word and that Evian is upset because she can't find Erin and blames Jane for her leaving. The police went looking for Evian and they found her a week later hiding out at Drax's house. They took her to Juvenile where they questioned her in her parent's presence. They couldn't find the knife but there were plenty of witnesses that saw Evian stab Jane including Me, Kelly, Jason, Kyle, Rick, the woman across the street and an off duty cop that followed us to the hospital. They arrested Evian and charged her with attempted murder. Today is February 7, 1984; It's Kelly's seventeenth birthday next year she will be an adult. It doesn't seem like we've been together now for almost two years now. I'm at my house waiting for Kelly to come pick me up. I'm getting closer to buying my first car I just need a little bit more money but since school started back I'm only allowed to work weekends. I'm sitting on the couch listening to my Walkman. I'm listening to Eruption by Van Halen. Eddie Van Helen does that really cool guitar riff that lasted a minute and forty-two seconds. After the song was over the Walkman made a weird nose I pull off my headphones and push the ejected button and easily pulled out the cassette and I see the tape hanging. I said " Dammitt". I sit the cassette on my lap and turn to my backpack and unzip the small pocket. I pull out my lead pencil then pick up the cassette. I put the eraser part in one of the holes and rewind the tape back inside. I put the tape in the small pocket of my backpack with a few other tapes and I unzip the big part of the backpack and place the Walkman inside at the bottom with the headphones on top I zip it back and I hear the car horn outside. I get up and put my backpack on my right shoulder I pet Zeke on the head as he lays there. I walk into the foyer and open the door walking out out the front porch after locking the door I walk down to the car where Kelly is waiting. I open the passenger door and get inside shutting the door. I look over at Kelly and she smiles at me showing her pretty white teeth that are straight. I smile and lean forward kissing her softly she smiles into the kiss and kisses me back. We look at each other and I said " Happy Birthday Beautiful". She said " I'm finally seventeen one more year and I'm out of my Dad's house". She shifts into drive and pulls off down the road slowly gaining speed. I said as she drives " So how did he act this morning?" Kelly said " He gave me $300 dollars and an ounce of weed". I said " That sounds like him". Kelly said " It's whatever I'm use to it he didn't even tell me happy birthday he just gave me the weed and the money then fucked off". I said " What an asshole". She drives to school and goes up the hill turning right into the parking lot she drives down and parks in an empty space in the middle. She puts the car in park and shuts off the engine pulling out the keys she puts them in the pocket of her blue jean jacket. She said to me " Are you gonna give me something for my birthday?" She says with a wink. I roll my eyes playfully she's such a perv. I said " Depends on your attitude". I say with a smile she smiles back at me and we both get out of the car closing the doors and walk around to the back of the car. As we stand there I look at Kelly leaned against the trunk with her arms crossed she is scanning the parking lot like always. She is truly beautiful but her attitude is what makes her ugly sometimes.
