Chapter 9

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

A week later, it was November 12, 1982. It's Friday, so I'm off to school riding in the car with Kelly as she drives us to school. We arrive ten minutes later from my house. Surprisingly, both of my parents are off work today. They don't get many days off because of their jobs. Sometimes, I wish I had a brother or a sister to keep me company, but my mom can't have kids anymore because of a medical condition called Endometriosis. It's a painful disorder that affects her ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining of her pelvis, also making it difficult to become pregnant. She learned she was pregnant with me on her seventeenth birthday, but after having me, the doctor said she would most likely not be able to have any more kids because her Endometriosis could cause a miscarriage. Kelly parks her car in a spot and turns the engine off, pulling the keys out of the ignition and putting them in the inside pocket of her blue jean jacket. We have been okay since the fight we had in my kitchen. We argued at her house a few days ago, but she didn't hit me that time. Sara has been hanging out with Ashley and Natalie. We also found that Sara has been dating Ashley for a few months since she moved here, and we didn't know that Ashley was Bisexual, too. They have kept their distance but are still saying things and picking at us. Kelly and I are standing in front of the back of her car when Jane walks up with Jason and Kyle. Jane is wearing her black leather biker jacket for girls, a black t-shirt with TS in silver letters on the front, a 1982 Twisted Sister concert shirt, a pair of dark blue high-waisted jeans, and her black Converses low tops. Jason is wearing his black leather jacket, a black MTV shirt, a pair of dark blue Wrangler jeans, and his black steel-toed boots; Kyle is wearing his blue jean jacket, a grey and black checkered flannel, a pair of Carpenter blue jeans, and his black Nike Cortez. Kelly is wearing her blue jean jacket, a black high voltage AC DC shirt, dark blue high-waisted blue jeans, and her white and blue Adidas top tens. I wear my blue jean jacket, a black Whitesnake t-shirt, dark blue high-waisted blue jeans, and grey New Balance. We are standing there talking.

Jane said, " Terri and Don are getting married today." Kelly said, " Finally,." in a sarcastic way. Jane said, " She invited all of us". Kelly said, " Even me??" Jane said, " Yeah." Kelly said, " I'm shocked," in a sarcastic way. I said, " Do you not like Terri or something??" Kelly said, " Believe it or not, she used to date my dad back after my mom died, then she dumped him for Don." Jane said, " Isn't your dad like a lot older than Terri?" Kelly said, " They were only eight years apart." Jason said " So Terri was your stepmom?" Kelly grinned " Yeah, she was so hot.. still is".. Jane rolls her eyes then Kelly says " Come on you guys don't agree with me?" Jason and Kyle's faces are blushing as they stay silent. Kelly grinned and said, " They agree with me." Jane said sarcastically, " That's because they're guys." My face blushed; Jane looked at me and then rolled her eyes playfully. I said as I blushed, " What? She's not wrong. Terri is beautiful". Kyle and Jason smile, then fist-bump me. Jane says playfully, " You perverts." Kelly grins, " I'd do her." We look at Kelly with weird looks. Jason says, " Whoa now.. she's a beautiful woman, and that's it". He says respectfully, Kyle agrees. " Yeah, I don't think of her like that." I said, " Yeah, that would be weird". I give Kelly a look, and she smiles evilly. We all walk down to the courtyard and inside the school, get our things, and head off to class.

Later that day after school, Kelly drives me, Jane, Jason, and Kyle down to Freezo's, an old ice cream shop on North Central Street about three minutes away from our school if you take Woodland Avenue. After eating some ice cream, we chatted at the old cement picnic tables. A black 1982 Camaro Z28 pulls up by the table we are at. Natalie is in the driver seat, Patrick is in the passenger seat, and Ashley and Sara are in the back seat making out. Patrick's window is down as he puffs on a cigarette. He said, " What's up bitches?" Kelly said, " Fuck off, lizard dick." We all bust out laughing at her comment. Patrick said with a perverted grin." Wanna see it?" Kelly said, " Hell no". He and Natalie snicker. Ashley and Sara are trying to swallow each other. It's grossing me out. They are using their tongues, which makes me gag. Kelly and I don't French kiss, and we are both disgusted by it. Kelly looked at them in the back and said with sarcasm, " Damn, how far are you guys shoving your tongues down each other's throats?" They stopped kissing and looked over at us. Ashley said, " What's the matter? Jealous?" with an evil grin. Kelly said, " Why would I be?? French kissing is nasty as hell; besides, my tongue is better for other things". She smiles at Kyle and me, making us both blush. Patrick imitates a blow job by pushing his tongue inside his mouth, making his cheek puff out as he moves his hand from side to side. Kelly said with sarcasm, " Look at his skills." insinuating Patrick is gay. He glares at her as the girls giggle at him. He flicks the cigarette butt out the window, and it bounces off Kelly's shoe, making a black mark, and it lands on the ground beside her shoe. She said, " Watch it, needle dick! You already messed up one of my shirts!" He smiled evilly, and Natalie peeled off, burning her tires on the ground. Not even two minutes later, the car comes flying around the building as it zooms past us. Patrick lights a huge string of firecrackers and quickly tosses it out the window. It lands in the middle of the table, and we all scatter quickly as it explodes. Kelly said, " You fucking bitches!!" She ran over to her car and opened the truck. We all run over there with her and see a box full of fireworks. Kyle said, " You keep fireworks in your trunk??" Kelly wasn't listening as she looked through the box. She pulled out a Roman candle and said, " This will teach them." Kyle said, " Kelly, just forget about it." Kelly said, " Nobody fucks with me". She tossed the keys to Jane and said, " You drive." Jane said, " No way! Kelly, he's right, just forget about it". Kelly said, " Drive!!" Jane got in the driver's seat, Kyle, Jason, and I got in the back seat, and Kelly got in the passenger seat. She starts the car by pushing her foot on the clutch, then shifting it into first gear, and starts driving but not speeding. She says, " Why do I have to drive?!" Kelly said, " Because I need to shoot those assholes with this Roman candle, and they aren't old enough to drive yet!" She's talking about us in the back seat. Jane drives around until Kelly spots Natalie's car at the Baxter Avenue park, about six minutes from the ice cream shop. Kelly said, "There are those dweebs." Natalie's car is parked on the road by the park while they sit at a white gazebo similar to the one at Edgewood. Kelly pulled out a zippo lighter and said to Jane, " This like a drive-by, so you floor it by them as I shoot the candle. Get it, princess?" Jane rolled her eyes and said, " I know what a drive-by is, Kelly." She is looking at them at the table she has the lighter ready. She said, " Okay, peddle to the metal sweetness." Jane pushed her foot on the clutch, then shifted the gears into first and floors the gas as Kelly yelled out the window, " Here's Kelly!!!" A reference to The Shining movie and from The Johnny Carson show, but she replaced Johnny with her name instead. She quickly lights the Roman candle and points it out the window at Natalie, Ashley, Sara, and Patrick as they sit at the gazebo. The candle fires off five shots at them rapidly, and they scatter out of the gazebo, running in different directions as Kelly cackles evilly. Jane is already going down Stewart Street by the park as Kelly sits in the passenger seat, still laughing. She goes down and turns left on Gill Avenue, slowing down. Jane said to Kelly as she drove, " You are fucking insane!". Kelly said, " You love it." she winked at Jane. She drives over to her house and parks Kelly's car out front, and we all get out walking inside the house, where Jack is sitting on the couch watching TV. He said, " The whole gang's over.. You guys need to start getting ready for Terri and Don's wedding". Jane said, " Yeah, we are". Kyle and Jason walk to their houses to get ready. As Jane and I get ready, Kelly sits on Jane's bed, watching us as she looks at a magazine. Jane and I are wearing simple black dresses that are sleeveless and not too short and have black high heels. Kelly kept peeking over her magazine at us as we changed. Every time Jane looked back, Kelly would quickly raise her magazine. After we were done fixing our hair and putting on a little bit of makeup, Jane said to Kelly, " Kelly, are you really wearing that to the wedding?" Kelly laid the magazine down then said, " Why not?" Jane said, " It's a wedding which means you should wear something formal." Kelly scoffs, " I'm not wearing a dress." Jane walks over to her closet and pulls out the same dress we both wear. Jane said, " Actually, you are. For making me drive your car like a crazy person". Kelly stood up and said, " Fine if it will shut you up." She put it on and fixed her hair. She said, " How do I look?" I said, " You look hot". Jane nods in agreement. Kelly said, " How do you wear these things?" Jane said, " I only wear them on special occasions like this, but they are very comfortable." There was a knock at the door, and Jane said, " Come in." Debby and Terri walk in together. Debby said, " You two look so beautiful". Terri said, " Yeah, you guys look amazing". They almost didn't recognize Kelly standing there. Terri said, " Well, don't you look beautiful? Kelly almost didn't recognize you for a second." Kelly said, " Looking good yourself there". She winks, and Terri clears her throat, looking at her weirdly.
