Chapter 91

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

Seven Months later..

It's been a long seven months since Dad's death and I've been trying so hard to cope but death is difficult to handle especially when it's a parent. Everyone is hurt and trying to move on Dad's death has affected everyone, especially Mom. She's struggling worse because she was married to my Dad for twenty-three years and had been with him since she was fourteen. Losing someone like that is so heartbreaking. I don't know how she's feeling but I know if I lost Kyle that I wouldn't be fine either. Zeke passed away in January from old age he was fourteen years old that hurt me and Mom bad because he was such a great dog and loved us so much. After Dad died he became depressed and we think that the stress also played a part in his passing but the Vet said he went peacefully in his sleep. Now Mom is alone in the house and I'm worried about her... She's not herself.. she hasn't been for months and we all understand why. Today is Monday, April 13, 1992; There was something good that happened.. Dana is pregnant with her first child and Xander proposed to her a week ago and she said yes. Kat and James are also engaged they're getting married soon. I'm at work and it's my lunch break. I'm down at the Café with Dakota she's been here for me since Dad passed. Everyone has been very comforting but it still doesn't take away the pain... I still feel this empty feeling inside of me.. because a part of me went with him when he died... Sometimes looking in the mirror is painful.. All I see is his hazel green eyes staring back at me because I look a lot like him. I've had good days and bad days. Some days I just feel like I'm existing and some days I don't feel like getting out of bed but I make myself because I have to.. I'm pulled out of my thoughts by Dakota's voice " Kim??" I come back to reality and she's looking at me from across the table with a concerned look. She said, " Are you okay?" She places her hand on top of mine. I forced a smile and said as I lied " Yeah.. just spacing out.." Dakota said, " Everything will get better.. I promise"... She said to comfort me. I said, " I hope so". I leave a tip for the waiter and get up from the table. We walked back down to the office and got back to work. Around 2:00 pm I'm at my desk on the phone when I feel that cold presence I look up and see Darla sitting in the chair across from my desk she's see-through. I gave her a dirty look and hung up the phone cause the conversation was over. I look around and back at her. I whispered, " I am not in the mood for the likes of you today"... She grinned evilly as I got up from the chair and walked across the office. I go in the doorway and turn left to the hallway that leads to the break room. I walk in and up to the vending machine as I put a dollar bill in the machine Darla appears standing beside it. I push the button for a Coke and the can drops down. I bend down and pick it up walking over to the sink. I pull out a BC Powder from the pocket of my black blazer jacket. I snap open the can and rip off the top of the packet. I pour the medicine into my mouth and take a drink as Darla stares at me with an evil grin. I crumble up the empty packet and toss it in the trashcan near her. I sit the can down and she turns into her Corporeal form. I'm annoyed as I said in a hateful tone " I said I'm not in the mood today Darla". She said, " I tried to warn you that day but you didn't believe me". I said, " I don't believe anything you have to say". I walk past her and we bump shoulders. She said, " I've seen him". I suddenly stop and turn around looking at her as she stands there. I said with sarcasm " Oh really?? then why can't I see him now?" I said with bitterness because I wanted to see him like I've seen others. Darla said, " Because it's not meant for you to see him not until you're ready to handle it". I get mad as I take a step closer to her. I said with a hateful tone " What's that supposed to mean??" She grinned evilly and said, " Exactly what it does.. Kelly didn't get to see me for nearly twenty years until she was ready". I scoff and said, " Fuck you". I turn around and Darla said, " Damn you're bitter". I growl as I turn around grab her by the throat and slam her against the wall. I'm so pissed as I stare at her. I said, " Get the fuck out of here! Don't make me say it again bitch". Darla smiles evilly and turns see-through my hand goes through her. Darla said with sarcasm " Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine". Dark energy wings come out of her shoulder blades and she flies up into the ceiling going through it. I exclaim as I break down crying with my back against the wall. She's right I hate to say it... I am angry and bitter that he's gone.. but that's only because I'm grieving.. this pain is killing me.. Everyone says it will get better.. but the truth is when does it?? Nancy walks in and sees me. She has a concerned look on her face as she slowly approaches me. She said " Kim.. Honey what's wrong?" I said as I cried " I'm just not having a great day". She said, " I understand sweetie.. go home for the rest of the day". I said as I cried " I can work.." Nancy gave me a look and said, " I'm telling you that it is totally fine to leave.. Kim you've been under a lot of stress these past several months"... I said as I cried " I lost my Dad.. how I can I ever cope with it??" I exclaim as I break down crying she pulls me into her arms and hugs me. She looks at me with her hand on my face. She said " You will it just takes time.. I lost my Dad when I was about your age... I'm not gonna lie and tell you that it's not gonna hurt for a while because it will but you will heal.. because your Dad wouldn't want you to suffer like this because he's not here anymore.. you've got to live for him Kim.." I said as I cried " It's just so hard".. Nancy said " I know sweetie.. believe me".. I said as I cried " I'll see you tomorrow". Nancy said, " Okay.. drive safely". I dry my eyes with my sleeve as I walk out and down the hallway. I turn off the computer at my desk and gather my things. I put my bag on my shoulder and walked out the door and down the stairs. There is a lower floor when you turn left down a hallway but if you go down the stairs there are a set of doors in front. I walk out of the building and down the sidewalk heading to the parking lot beside the building. I get in my car and my cell phone rings. I unzip the bag and pull it out it says Dana on the strip of the screen. I opened it and answered it " Hello?" Dana said " Hey.. oh I'm sorry I forgot.. you are at work right?" I said with a smile " I'm actually leaving now.. why what's up?" Dana said " Well since I'm pregnant and all I figured I'd go out and shop for some newborn clothes.. would you like to join me?" Dana and I have grown closer over the past few months. We have been hanging out more when we can. I said " Yeah I'd love to.. I need to get out.. where do you want to go?" She said, " I was thinking East Towne they have a baby store there now". I said, " Sounds good.. let me run home and change clothes and I'll meet you there". Dana said, " Cool I'll see you soon". We hang up and I call Kyle. He answers " Hello Beautiful". I said " I'm leaving work early.. Dana has invited me to hang out at the mall with her.. what time will you be home?" He said, " That's great Baby.. I won't be home until late so you two can get something to eat if you want to". I said " Okay". He said, " Have fun with Dana.. I love you". I said, " I will.. I love you Babe". We hang up and I drive home. I make it home at 2:36 pm because of school letting out. I park my car in the driveway and turn it off. I get out and close the door with my bag on my shoulder I walk up to the front door and unlock the door I walk inside as I do Lance greets me with a meow. I bend down and pet him as he purrs I stand up and walk into the kitchen. I feed him and head upstairs to change clothes and shower right quick. A few minutes later I'm walking down the stairs and into the foyer. I pick up my keys out of the decorative bowl and out the front door closing it behind me. I turn around and lock it with my keys. I walk down to my car and get inside after getting it going I pull out of the driveway and turn right down the road. I drive down and turn left down the main road. As I do a school bus is stopped and is unloading kids the stop sign is out I look at the clock on my radio and it says 3:50 pm I stop a little ways back and wait. I spot Jesse and Brandon getting off the bus together. Jesse has grown more she is 5'0" and weighs 107 lbs., She is almost as tall as me now. She will be twelve in August. Brandon is also taller he's 5'2" and weighs a little more than Jesse. They stand on the sidewalk and I watch as Brandon kisses Jesse on the cheek. I smile because it's cute. Jesse has told Terri that Brandon is her boyfriend. Terri is fine with it cause she knows Jesse is growing up they are only eleven and a harmless kiss on the cheek is fine but Terri doesn't let them be alone in Jesse's room with the door closed. Tanya and Bryce have the same rule at their house with Brandon. My parents were the same if Kyle or Jason were over at my house when we were that age the door had to be opened. Jesse spots me and smiles then she and Brandon wave at me. I wave back and the bus pulls off with the sign closing. I drive the rest of the way to the mall meeting Dana in the parking lot. She's 5'10" and weighs 168 lbs. She has long and curly red hair that goes a little past her shoulders, her eyes are dark blue and her skin tone is fair. She smiles and hugs me. I always feel so short around her because of how tall she is. She is a little bit taller than Debby. Dana is wearing a red shirt that says Def Leppard Adrenalize 1992 tour, a black leather belt, a pair of low-rise Lee blue jeans, and a pair of red, white, and black Air Jordan high-tops. We walk inside the mall and walk around to a few stores. After leaving the baby store we headed to the food court. We got some food at Burger King and sat down at a table to eat and talk. Our food trays are empty with the wrappers and the boxes from the food and are pushed to the side of the table. I said to Dana " I'm so happy for you and Xander". She said, " I'm excited to be a Mom and nervous at the same time". I said " What do you think it's gonna be?" Dana said with a smile " A girl.." I said, " I've always wanted to have a little girl". Dana put her hand on mine and said with a smile " You will someday soon I know it". I said, " I already have a name it's silly I know". Dana said with a smile " Not all.. what is it?" I said " Carly Elizabeth". Dana said " That's a beautiful name.. is it with K or C?" I said, " C.. there are too many K's". Dana giggled and said, " Yeah there are". I said " Do you have any names in mind yet?" Dana said, " Well if it's a boy I'm gonna name it Alexander David Porter Jr. after Xander and if it's a girl I thought of the name Avery.. I've always loved that name for a girl". I said, " That is beautiful". Dana said, " I haven't thought of a middle name for the girl yet". I said with a smile " I'm sure you will". Dana looks up and her facial expression changes. I look up and there stands Kelly and Kevyn who has grown more she's now 4'8" pretty tall for a 7 year old she will be taller than Kelly by the age of 11. I said with a slightly unfriendly tone " Kelly". She said as she looked at me and Dana " Since when did you two become friends?" I said, " We've always been friends". Dana looked up at Kelly and said with an attitude " Can't say the same about you though". Kevyn said with an attitude to Dana " Don't talk to my Mom like that". Dana and I look at Kevyn. Kelly puts her hand on her shoulder and Kevyn looks up at her. Kelly said as she handed Kevyn some cash " Go get you some cookies". Kevyn takes the money and gives me and Dana a go-to-hell look. Kevyn walks down the row of tables and up to the Cookie store. Dana and I both stand up, Kelly looks up at Dana and then at me. She said " And I thought Debby was Lurch but even she makes Debby look short". Kelly giggles evilly, Dana gives Kelly a sarcastic look and then said " Kelly.. Always a stumpy little bitch". She glares at Dana evilly. Kelly said, " Don't think for a second that I'm scared of you just because you're bigger than me.. Debby found out the hard way". I said, " Debby whipped your ass and you know it". Dana giggled and said to me " Jane was telling me how Debby had Kelly wrapped up in her legs while she struggled to get away". We are giggling as Kelly gives us an evil look. Dana said in a teasing way to piss Kelly off " Aww.. are you mad because you couldn't get away from her". We bust out giggling as Kelly scoffs and storms off. As she passes by the tables she angrily shoves the tables. Kevyn meets her at the end of the tables and they walk away. Dana gave me a high five and said " That was hilarious". Dana said as she giggled " I just wish I could have seen Debby get a hold of Kelly like that.. I would have laughed my ass off". I said, " We were all laughing afterwards". We walked outside to the parking lot and told each other bye. I drove back home and waited for Kyle to get home from work.
