Chapter 30

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

After the battle with Amy, Ashley and Natalie in my house we went to the hospital and got treated. Rick suffered several broken ribs from crashing his motorcycle and the gash on his leg that needed a butterfly stitch. My Mom was beaten up pretty bad by Ashley and Natalie she had about five ribs broken and two of her fingers were fractured. Our ribs are almost healed completely just a little tender and the burns on my left hand is healed well it would be called a lightning burn but mine isn't as severe as someone who were struck by real lightning. It caused a second degree burn and when you are hit with lightning it travels through your body creating skin lesions that are also called tree like lesions resembling feathering or ferning which turns to scars. So it looks like I've been zapped with lightning on the top of my hand which is true but it was Demonic lightning which is less life threatening then real lightning. The scars starts at the bottom of my hand above my wrist bone and stops in the middle of my hand and they are a light red color that appears pink like a scar and now my hand has some nerve damage it goes numb off and on, it tingles and sometimes I feel shooting pains other than that I'm fine. I had a great time with my parents over the winter holidays we went and visited my mom's parents here in Knoxville then up to Sevierville to visit my dad's parents. When we got back to our house we went and played in the snow in the backyard with Zeke. We built a snowman that Zeke stole the sticks off of and we laughed at him. Afterwards we went inside and sat on the couch watching old Christmas movies while drinking hot chocolate. Today is January 2, 1984; I'm waiting on Kelly to come pick me up for school this morning I haven't seen her in about a week because she has been out of town with Austin and her grandfather Theo they went and visited some of his family that live in Valdosta, Georgia and to visit Austin's brother Greg which is Theo's youngest son he lives in Huntsville, Alabama. Kelly hates her uncle Greg she says he molested her when she was little. I believe it too because he came down to visit a few months ago and he is a strange man he couldn't keep his eyes off of Kelly or me he was just a big creep. I'm sitting on the couch listening to the TV. I'm wearing my dark blue jean jacket, a black t-shirt that says TS in silver letters which stands for the band Twisted Sister it's from their 83' tour I got this for Christmas, a pair of Ralph Lauren blue jeans that are high waisted and a pair of black and white Adidas Forum lows that I also got for Christmas. I hear the horn outside and I get up getting my backpack beside me. I pet Zeke on the head and pick up my keys off the end table and walk into the foyer and out the front door closing it behind me. After I locked the door I walked down to the car and get inside. Kelly smiles as she looks at me, She said " It's been awhile since I seen you. Did you get taller?" She says with a smirk. I know I'm done growing cause I have been this tall since the sixth grade. I said with sarcasm " Haha very funny you know you're short too right?" Kelly said " I'm average". I said " I'm taller than Mandi". Kelly said " Yeah cause Mandi is a midget you're just a short little kid". I exclaim in a playful way and swat her in the arm as she's giggling. She starts the car and shifts into gear driving down the road, She looks over at me with smirk and said " See short and mean". I smile sarcastically and flip her off. She said " I will later." She winks at me as I blush. She pulls up the hill and turns left into the parking lot she drives down and pulls into a spot shutting off the car putting the keys in her jacket pocket. I forgot to take my birth control that I just started taking a few weeks ago. Mom thought that Rick was my crush but I told her he wasn't but she still suggested I take birth control just in case. She doesn't know that I already have been having sex with Kelly obviously she can't get me pregnant. My Mom said she's not giving me permission to have sex but if it happens it happens she just doesn't want me to get pregnant. I was very surprised that she even said that and My Dad didn't seem too thrilled about it but agreed to the birth control and it helps with my periods. I pick up my bag and unzip the small pocket and pull out the circle container. Kelly sees this and said " You take birth control?" I said " Yeah my mom suggested I did". Kelly said " She thinks you're having sex with a guy doesn't she?" I said " No and I told her that I wasn't having sex she just wanted me to be safe". Kelly said " Which one are you taking?" I hand it to her and she reads the label. She hands it back and leans over and opens the glovebox and pulls out the same container. She said " My dad made me start taking it when I started dating Kyle". I'm taking a drink of water swallowing the pill. She takes hers with the same water bottle and puts it back in the cup holder. We both get out of the car closing the doors and walking around to the back of the car. As we stand there Jane drives by us in her car and parks two spaces down because there was two cars in those other spaces. Kelly is scanning the parking lot for customers like always when Erin Miller approaches us.
