I got a snake :) and I loved it so much I bought two more. They're cute little western hognoses (meaning they got a tiny upturned snoot) and they're just little babies. Anyway I had to include them in this chapter so I hope you're not afraid of scaly noodles.

Soulmate AU where your world becomes colorful after you look into the eyes of your soulmate.

Peter couldn't help finding his gaze wandering to the cafe his old friends were in. They were talking about something—what about he could only guess—like they didn't miss him. He supposed they didn't, though. They didn't remember him. Every time he passed them he was forced to remember his choice to push everyone he cared about out of his life, and it stung every time. He just hoped it wouldn't hurt forever.

Pulling his mask back down, he shook his head as if forcing the thoughts out of his brain, and looked around from his vantage point. It was a mostly quiet night, nothing all that exciting grabbing his attention. He didn't like that. Anything to stop him from thinking was welcome, so when he heard a shriek, he immediately swung towards it.

After stopping a robber from escaping with stolen goods, he swung back up to perch on a tall building. The hum of city life continued uninterrupted, and he sighed. It was not the night of fighting crime nonstop he had hoped for. So he went for a swing to clear his thoughts.

Soon enough he found himself over Whitestone Bridge. The water was calm if the moonlight was to be trusted, and the cars racing past below him illuminated the bridge. It was peaceful despite the honking of the cars below and rush of the people going about their lives. At this time of night, he didn't expect to see anybody walking across the bridge, but to his surprise, a girl leaned over the railing, the wind blowing her hair as she almost looked longingly at the water below.

Peter landed silently behind her, torn between saying hello or just watching her. He quickly decided on speaking up after realizing he looked creepy staring at her. "Nice night for a walk." She didn't even move, and for a moment, he thought she didn't hear him.

"Or a dive."

"What?" He felt the urge to grab her, but she made no move to actually climb over the railing.

"Ah, sorry, life just has me...contemplating." She looked up at the night sky, the empty void only broken by the moon.

"What's going on?" He rested his elbows on the railing beside her.

"My cat just died." Her voice broke and she took a second to regain her voice. "And I know it's a little thing, but I've had him for so long now I forgot what it was like to be alone in my apartment."

"And that makes you want to end it?" he asked, tilting his head. She shook her head, looking down.

"It's the loneliness." She wiped at her eyes, smiling despite her obvious depression. "I don't have anybody else to talk to. I was hoping somebody would stop me. And here you are." She looked at him, and upon meeting her eyes, his world exploded into color. He gasped, eyes going wide as he took a step back. She squinted, confused. "What?"

"That's...great," he squeaked out. She blinked.

"Um, okay?"

Realizing his reaction wasn't appropriate, he cleared his throat. He could study his now colored world later. "Sorry, I just, um, your eyes. They're very pretty." He wasn't sure if his coverup covered much up but she smiled easily.

"I wouldn't know. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, staying inside all day doesn't make it easy."

"You haven't met your soulmate?" He said it more to himself than her, but she nodded.
