This might just be an excuse to brag about what my boyfriend got for me at the Minnesota State Fair the day I wrote this, and how you should all feel jealous, but I also thought it had potential so here you go. Most events are either things that actually happened or slightly altered. And yeah it mostly exists just because it's fluffy.
The State Fair was honestly one of the best parts of summer. Yeah the food gave you the runs afterwards and it was overpriced to high heck and the sheer number of people was annoying, but gosh was it fun. The atmosphere was infectious, making you excited to try all the different foods deep fried and shoved on a stick, try your hand at a game of skill or ride the ferris wheel, see every kind of farm animal, and just enjoy being there. So, of course, you had to drag your boyfriend with you.
"...so I worked there a couple years and it's actually super fun. You can try so many different kinds of food..." You were prattling on to your boyfriend on the way to the fair, explaining everything you had already told him when you bought the tickets. He was just smiling absentmindedly listening to you ramble, shaking his head after a minute.
"You're a little excited aren't you."
"Oh totally." You shot him a grin, then turned toward the window with a gasp. "Look! We're here." The bus you had gotten on after the very long and oh so fun process of finding a parking spot had finally arrived at the fair's front entrance. You slung your bag over your shoulder and followed Peter off the bus, pulling your phone out to get your tickets ready to scan.
After you stepped in through the gates, you turned to your boyfriend. "Do you wanna take a picture?" He didn't get much of a say as you held up your phone to take a picture of both of you at the entrance and sent it to your family. He took your hand as you both walked into the crowd of people.
You pointed everything out as you walked, since this was his first time here. You had grown up in Minnesota and moved out to New York for college, where you two met. Your parents wanted to see you and meet your boyfriend, so you bought the plane tickets and you both came back for a week. Since this was a must for him to experience, you made sure to squeeze this into a time where your parents were busy so you two could hang out alone. He got overwhelmed quickly by the change of scenery and difference in families, so you thought it would do him some good.
Speaking of overwhelmed, Peter looked it right then. You turned to him, furrowing your brows as you ran a hand over his arm. "You okay?"
"My (spider sense/tingle) is going nuts right now." He squeezed his eyes shut, holding a hand up to his head like he had a bad headache.
"That's not good." You looked around as if expecting somebody to jump out and start laughing maniacally.
"There's just so many people."
"Can I help at all?" He abruptly grabbed your hand and pulled you into him, eyeing a stroller rolling by, the parent controlling it not paying a lick of attention.
"Don't get run over." There was humor to his words but his eyes were still squinted in pain. You pressed a quick kiss to his nose and pulled him toward the Mighty Midway, a whole street dedicated to rides and fair games with some food places in between. You held his hand as you guided him down the path, explaining that you should always play these games last so you don't have to carry around a giant plushie the whole trip.
"Oh this one has Squishmallows!" you chirped excitedly, pointing. He laughed. "Oh but that game is rigged. You literally can't win." He watched you as you spoke, your attention constantly pulled from one game to another, and smiled to himself. It was adorable to watch. You caught him looking and tilted your head. "What's up?"
