Takes place after the blip but before the events of FFH
The worst part about buying presents for people is knowing what to get. This is further complicated when you don't know the person very well but don't have an option because you drew his name from the Secret Santa hat. What would Flash, a rich boy, want from you, a broke high school student? They saw it's not what you got, it's the thought you put into it but you had a feeling he'd laugh at whatever it was regardless.
He didn't bully you, not that you'd let him talk smack to you, but you weren't blind to how little he liked other members of the Decathlon team. You couldn't blame him, though. The little you knew about his upbringing made you sympathetic to his situation so you wanted to do your best to get him a good gift.
But the thing was...you were as blind as a bat when it came to figuring out what people wanted. They could point at something and say they wanted it and you still wouldn't register that 'hey, I should buy them that thing'. So you went to your friends for help.
"You know he hates me, right?" Peter said, looking dumbfounded you'd even bring it up to him.
"Pretty sure he doesn't like me either," Ned added.
"He doesn't give you ridiculous nicknames, Ned."
"He's given me the stink eye at least once!"
"Guys, please," you said, trying to bring the conversation back to the topic at hand. "The party's tomorrow and I have no ideas."
"Just get him socks or something," Ned suggested.
"But he's probably got 50 already, plus there's no actual thought put into a gift like that."
"Candy then."
"I don't know what he likes, and if I ask now, he'll know what I'm getting him." You let out a sigh. Why was this stressing you out so much? "Who do you have to get gifts for?"
"I got Betty." You and Ned faced Peter but he didn't answer, just pretended to busy himself with homework.
"We haven't touched our homework since we got to your apartment." You pointed out. You might've told your parents you were going to Peter's to do homework but that almost never actually happened. "What have you got to hide?"
"He's got his crush!" Ned giggled.
"Ned!" Peter shot him a look and pointed his finger threateningly. "Not another word."
"Ooo. Whatcha gettin' 'er?" You wiggled your eyebrows. He groaned, his face turning a light shade of red.
"Nothing."
"It's a-"
"Shush Ned!"
You laughed. "No, tell me Ned."
"Don't you dare."
"Sorry (Y/N), there's two secrets I'm not allowed to tell you and that's one of them."
"Two secrets?"
"Ned!" Peter wailed.
"Sorry!"
"You two," you laughed, shaking your head. "What am I going to do with you?"
"Let's just pretend none of that happened," Peter said, combing a hand through his hair and staring intently at his homework.
"Sure," you agreed, "as long as you give me a present idea."
"I heard he likes the Yankees."
"Oh, that gives me an idea. Thanks."
