You were sitting in the lunchroom with your friends, eating and laughing and talking about the jocks. You wouldn't really say you were popular, you just hung out with the popular gals and found they weren't bad company. The topics of conversation were limited, but at least it was better than listening to boys talk about how hot certain girls were and specific body parts they liked.
Unbeknownst to you, two pairs of eyes were on you. Ned and Peter were staring, but they couldn't help it. You were a beautiful junior, nice and caring. Peter had asked you for help on an assignment he really didn't need the help on just to talk to you, and you worked him through each problem in a way easy enough to understand. He had trouble taking his eyes off you, but to his relief you didn't notice his staring problem.
"Dude, you should go ask her out," Ned bumped his friend.
"You should also stop staring," Michelle butted in, shooting them both a look from her end of the table.
"Hey Michelle, do you think I have any chance with (Y/N)?" Peter asked hopefully.
"Not at all," she went back to reading her book. Peter deflated at her comment but Ned sent him a confident grin.
"Nobody would say no to dating Spider-man!"
"Shhh!" Peter shoved his hand over Ned's mouth.
"Yew goad tiss dud," Ned's voice was muffled.
"What?" Peter pulled his hand away.
"You got this dude," Ned flashed him a double thumbs up. Peter sighed before getting to his feet and heading in your direction. Half-way there a wave of doubt hit him and he nearly turned around, but he just meandered around for a few seconds till he got his confidence back. Even if you said no, there were worse things in the world.
You were listening to a friend of yours tell you all a story about what happened last night. She was telling you about the pool she had in her backyard, and how her boyfriend was going to toss her in when someone tapped you on the shoulder. You turned to see Peter Parker standing there, looking extremely nervous and ready to bolt at any second.
"Yes?" You questioned politely.
"Uh, can I talk to you, privately?" He glanced around at the rest of your table, all of its occupants now staring at him.
"Sure," you got up from your spot to follow the younger kid out of the cafeteria and into the next hall. You heard your friends making cat calls behind you but you ignored them. "What did you need, Peter?" You asked once he stopped walking and faced you.
"I, um," his nerves were on edge as he fiddled with his hands and rocked from side to side. You rose an eyebrow and tilted your head a few degrees to the left. "I, I really..." he inhaled and exhaled, before finally looking you in the eyes. "I like you." You immediately felt your chest constrict. "And, I- uh, was wondering if you wanted to be my girlfriend?"
"I'd love to," you smiled warmly while your heart got beaten by your brain. You didn't like him, didn't know him too well, but your heart wouldn't let this poor kid experience rejection from you. The way his eyes would become downcast and his lips would turn down in a frown while all the hope he had flew out the window would just break your heart.
His eyes lit up and he smiled wide. "Oh my gosh, you actually said yes!" He freaked out while you chuckled amusedly. This poor kid...how were you going to tell him you didn't like him?
"So when is our first date?" You inquired, jutting your hip out a little. You'd tell him then.
"Oh, right! Um, how about.....my house at 7 p.m. tonight? We can watch movies?" Your expression curved downward slightly. "Or we could do something else!" He quickly added.
