Spoilers for FFH (but you should've seen it by now)
"Look, you're a great guy, but..." You weren't sure how to say it, but thankfully you didn't have to. The guy sighed and nodded.
"It's fine." The flowers in his hand dropped to the floor and you winced.
"I'm really sorry." Your words fell on deaf ears as he walked away. You looked down at the flowers for a moment before reaching down to pick them up. It never got any easier turning boys away.
You weren't what one might call popular, but your looks passed as above average. Because of this you had many boys approach you to ask you out. At first you accepted, but over time your standards became much too high for them to reach. All but one, that is.
The whole world knew who Spider-man was, and to your shock, he was a junior boy in your school. His popularity grew exponentially, and with all that fame he hardly had a second to himself. It must suck. Girls had been approaching him nonstop since his secret broke so you figured your chances were slim to none. But you had to at least try.
"Hey Peter." Hugging your books to your chest, you smiled sweetly at him. He didn't seem shocked to see you at his locker.
"Hey." He sounded tired. "I'm dating someone, I sign autographs after school, and I'm going to be late for class." Upset but not deterred, you stepped in front of his path.
"Actually, I'm here about chemistry." You grimaced. "I'm bad at science and since, ya know, you're the smartest guy in the school, I was wondering if you could help me out?"
"Um, I'm busy after school, sorry."
"Oh." You looked down. "Sorry to bother you." You made a quick exit, hoping he at least felt a little bad. He didn't bat an eye as he walked away. Groaning, you leaned against the wall. This was going to be a lot more difficult than you thought, not to mention he already had a girlfriend (duh, you thought).
Peter's friend, a chubby kid you couldn't remember the name of, approached him excitedly. As he spoke he glanced back at you several times. A slow smile spread across your face. He was your in.
"...and when I come over tonight, is it ok if I bring a friend?" Ned asked, spinning around in his chair. You grinned as he waited for the response. You had talked to Ned after Peter blew you off (he wasn't hard to spot and he was nice enough to not mind you 'forgetting' his name) and found he was a wonderful person. In fact, he was so kind he agreed to help you with your chemistry homework (you weren't lying; you sucked at chemistry). Ned invited you over to his place to finish up the rest of the work and you happily agreed.
"Who?" the boy on the other end of the phone asked. Ned looked to you.
"Surprise?" You shrugged.
"It's a surprise."
"Is this going to be like the last surprise you gave me?" Peter replied. You rose an eyebrow in curiosity and Ned held up a hand to say 'wait', a wide smile on his lips.
"No, it's so much cooler." He held the phone away from his mouth as he explained, "It was a birthday cake that exploded when the candles went out." You held a hand over your mouth to suppress your laughter.
"Fine but if I have to spend the rest of the night cleaning up-"
"Awesome. See ya later dude." Ned hung up and stood. "Come on. You're gonna love him. I know he can seem, like, amazing but he's just a regular guy like me...." As Ned rambled, you sighed to yourself. You didn't think Peter'd love you but you really hoped he'd learn to, or- no, you could do this. Just make him fall in love with you, as easy as a walk in the park.
