You'd think with the crap Peter pulled, you'd be able to move on easily. But every time you thought your feelings for him were gone, he'd look at you and your heart would go crazy. To be fair, he tried to make it up to you by buying an extra large pizza with stuffed crust. He said he just wanted to be friends again but you were pretty sure, deep down, he actually felt bad about it.

But despite that, he barely hung out with you. It was like he went out of his way to avoid you, not that you minded. You were still trying to figure out your feelings about him. That night when he pulled that....stunt, you were sure you hated him. But now you realized it needed to happen so you could see he wasn't going to change for you; he wouldn't become the man you wanted him to be whether he dated you or just left you high and dry. Somehow your heart didn't get the memo, not that you let him see it. You'd never let him see you vulnerable again.

Getting voicemail again, you put your phone back in your pocket. Peter must be out superheroingーit was all he seemed to do lately. Ned casually glanced up from his homework, an 'I told you so' look on his face.

"Don't say it," you said, holding up a hand. He simply smiled. "Everything's just weird between us right now, he's not purposely ignoring me."

"Why else would he not answer?" Some days you really wished you could tell Ned Peter's secret.

"I can probably just look up the answer." You pulled up google on your phone in hopes of finding out the math solution but it wasn't as easy as you thought it'd be. You really missed having a genius friend that could answer any questions you threw at him. As you were struggling, your phone lit up with a call. You let out a relieved sigh as you answered. "Hey, I have a homework question. Do you have a sec?"

You heard him sigh. "You're not dying? Call me when it's an emergency."

"Wait, Peter-"

"I told you he's a jerk." At Ned's comment, the other end of the line went silent.

"Is that Ned?" he asked slowly.

"So you remember me." Ned glared at your phone as you put your face in your hand.

"How could I forget when there's so much of you to remember." Ned made a grab for the phone but you yanked it out of his reach.

"Stop it you two. Peter, I just wanted to ask a math question. If you don't want to answer just hang up." After a few moments, he groaned.

"Fine. What is it?"

"If the limit is as x approaches pi over two, and f of x equals sin of x, what would-"

"One. That's easy."

"Hey, it's been a long summer." You grinned. "Thanks Pete."

"Anything for you, sweetcheeks." He hung up. Ned was staring at you with confusion.

"What?"

"You're blushing."

"Am not." You put a hand to your cheek, noticing it felt kind of warm. "Whatever. We can move onto the next problem now."

On your way home from Ned's, you got the distinct feeling someone was following you. You tried to brush it off as paranoia but when you thought you heard footsteps, you whirled around. A dark figure was leaned against a wall, trying to blend in with the shadows. Feeling your heart leap into your throat, you kept your eyes on them as you reached for your phone.

Sensing there was someone sneaking up on you, you spun to see another figure crouched behind a bicycle rack. Frantically looking back and forth at the two, your hand scrambled to pull your phone out of your pocket. As you got it out, your other hand found the crosswalk button and pushed it. Despite feeling the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, you weren't ready to run into traffic yet.
