metanoia - the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life
Of all the days Peter could've chosen to go to the bank, it just had to be the one it was getting robbed. He kept his hands on his head as one of the robbers swept her gun around at the hostages, daring them to try something. Thankfully nobody felt brave enough to challenge her.
"How's the safe coming?" The one with the tiger mask asked. Peter would've liked to get their descriptions but they were wearing animal masks. He hated when criminals were smart.
One holding a gun to the bank teller's head (with a lion mask) growled, "Slowly. Hurry up!" He smacked the poor man, making the man squeak. Peter looked around for an exit, somewhere he could at least hide temporarily to change into his suit, but one of them kept watching him. He looked up at her cat mask, squinting. Was she staring at him? She looked away quickly when the safe unlocked.
The man knocked the teller upside the head and he collapsed. The masked man headed inside as the shorter woman followed him with a bag. Once they were out of view, the one next to the hostages swung her gun around to threaten them one more time before approaching Peter.
"Are you...?" she whispered, trying to study him through the tiny holes cut for the eyes. He watched her silently, a curious raise in his brow. She muttered a curse, and after checking to see if the other two were back, she grabbed his arm roughly and pulled him to his feet. "Anybody moves and I kill all of you." She glared at the hostages but they couldn't see it, not that her point was missed. She drug Peter towards the back of the bank, mumbling incoherently to herself. Now that he was closer he could see she had (S/C) skin and (H/C) hair. He made a mental note of it as she shoved him towards a door. He looked between the door and her.
"Go! Get out of here!" she said, making a shoving motion at him.
"What?" Since when did robbers willingly let someone leave (other than as a sign of good faith whilst negotiating with the police)?
"I swear Pete I'll-" She cut herself off abruptly, wincing. She said too much. "They're gonna kill me for this." She kicked open the door and used the gun to persuade him out the door. "Run." Then she shut the door.
He stood still for a minute trying to figure out what just happened. But he couldn't dwell on it for long, he had hostages to save.
By the time he came back, the robbers had escaped and the hostages were being questioned. The police were there so he asked what happened. "Some robbers called the Cats, well, robbed the place," an officer said, gritting his teeth and shaking his head. "They took hostages but thankfully none of 'em were hurt." That was good at least. "This is the fifth bank they've robbed and they keep getting away! We don't have names, faces, their next target, only what could barely be called a description!" Peter decided to stop asking questions before the man blew his lid.
Why had the cat mask girl let him leave? She did it when the other two weren't looking, so obviously she wasn't supposed to. And how'd she know his name? The whole thing was tiring to think about, especially with no answers for any of his questions. The only thing he knew was that wasn't the last time he'd see the Cats.

"And she just let you go?" (Y/N) asked, leaning across the table with her arms crossed and a furrow in her brow.
"Yeah, but why?" Peter mumbled, staring at his unfinished science project.
"You're asking the wrong person," she laughed. Seeing that didn't get a smile out of him, she sighed. "Maybe she thought you were cute or something? Or maybe she didn't see you as much of a threat."
