You chomped on a donut like a stereotypical cop as you sat in your police cruiser, watching passing cars. Sighing in content, you leaned further back in your seat. Being a cop wasn't so bad, at least not usually. Occasionally you'd have to deal with something that was above your paygrade but those situations were rare. Besides, you had your old friend Spidey to count on if things went from bad to worse.
Yes, Spider-manーthe web-slinging hero of Queensーwas an old friend of yours. Ok, don't tell anyone, but you know who he is. Crazy, right? He made you promise you wouldn't tell anyone, and you swore the words would never leave your lips, but sometimes you had to bite your tongue to prevent yourself from bragging to your cop friends you knew who the spider was.
Back in the day you and Peter were friends. You two weren't peas in a pod but rather two corn cobs on a stalkーyou were great friends but weren't inseparable. It was amazing what you could do when you put your heads together, and you had many happy memories of the many shenanigans you two pulled, all science related of course.
Then college came and you two went your separate ways, promising to keep in touch. Throughout college the main reason for texting the other usually had to do with help on homework, but sometimes you had conversations like you used to.
After college, the communication stopped for the most part. Until of course you met him again, this time adorning red and blue spandex. You were keeping people away from a burning building when he dropped down next to you, asking if there was anybody still inside. Though shocked, you answered, and he took off to save the poor people.
There was a couple instances in which he talked to you behind the mask before feeling he had to tell you his little secret or he'd explode. From there, well, there isn't much to say. You tell him if something big's going down so he can do his thing, and occasionally you'll casually talk during work. This peaks others' interest but you insist you don't know who he is/there's nothing going on between the two of you.
A thud sounds from the roof of the car. You sit up in your seat, the partially chewed piece of donut in your mouth completely forgotten as you try to think of what that possibly could've been. Then a certain friendly neighborhood hero crawled in through the passenger window and plopped onto the seat. You just managed to grab the donut box on the seat in time before he squished them all.
"Don't scare me like that!" You cried, smacking his arm. Because of the donut in your mouth the words came out muffled but understandable.
"Sorry (Y/N)," he said. You could tell he didn't mean it but chose not to comment.
"What brings you here?"
"There's nothing interesting going on so I thought I'd stop by."
You nodded and opened the box of donuts. "Donut?" He plucked one from the container and moved his mask up to his nose so he could eat.
Suddenly, two cars went flying past you over 20 m.p.h. above the speed limit. You flipped the switch to turn your flashing lights on and took off after them. Peter sighed and continued eating his donut, chill with just letting you handle this yourself. But they wouldn't move to the side of the road, not even slowingーin fact, they were probably speeding up.
"I smell a car chase," you mumbled under your breath. Peter sighed, exasperated, and shot a couple webs out the window at the back tires of the cars. The webs on the exterior of the wheels slowed them down significantly and forced them to drive to the shoulder of the road.
After you parked behind them you got out of the car and marched up to them. "You better have a really good explanation or so help me-"
"We didn't see you," the driver said, trying to play the innocent card. This caused you to go ballistic and shout at them it isn't possible to not notice the loud flashing car following behind them. They just offered sorry smiles and unsure shrugs in response, causing you to sigh angrily.
