"Hey Greg," you greeted the policeman as you waltzed through the station doors. He looked up, sending a friendly wave as he recognized you. The entire police force knew you by now. He looked at the computer in front of him then frowned.
"He isn't here."
"Yeah, I'm actually not here for him. Probably drunk off his arse somewhere but not caught yet." The him you were referring to was your lovely father who cared more about liquor than anybody in the world. You wished you could've left like your mom but she thought you looked too much like him, and because she wanted to make a fresh start, she didn't want him holding her back in any way. You hated both of them but you still showed up to bail your old man out of jail anyway.
Greg nodded knowingly then clasped his hands in front of his large midsection. "So what are you here for?"
"A friend." You rolled your eyes, the mere idea of that idiot getting put behind bars disappointing you more than your father's lifestyle. "Name's Peter Parker." He checked the system and made an 'Ah ha" noise.
"Follow me." He led you back to some overnight cells, only a couple of which were occupied. There was a man with a mustache and an angry look in his eyesーhe growled as you passedーa bulky man with tattoos, and a woman with crooked teeth and a nasty snarl which she demonstrated when she saw you. Then there was Peter. He had a black eye and multiple cuts and bruises scattered around; he looked about as out of place as a llama in space. He was moping before he saw the policeman unlocking his cell door, and as soon as he saw you he was up and smiling.
"Hi (Y/N)."
You sucked a breath in through your teeth. "Let me guess, I should see the other guy?" He rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding your gaze.
"You're free to go Mr. Parker," Greg said, stepping out of the way so the boy could leave. Peter was out of the cell the next second. Greg shut the cell and led the both of you back to the waiting room. After giving back his stuff, the policeman said, "See you later (Y/N), and hopefully we won't see you again Mr. Parker." Greg sent the boy a pointed look and Peter nodded quickly.
Once you were out the front doors you turned to the boy. "I know you said you got in a fight over the phone but..." You grabbed his chin and tilted his head up so you could get a better look at his swollen eye. You whistled and his face turned red. "That's quite a shiner, I'm almost jealous." You released him and headed over to your motorcycle. "What are you doing getting in a fight anyway?"
"It's kind of a long story." That was his way of saying he'd rather not tell, so you left it at that.
"So where am I taking you?" You zipped up your brown leather jacket and kicked a combat boot over the bike to straddle it. You expected him to say home but he fiddled with his fingers and avoided your gaze again.
"I kind of told May that I'd be over at a friend's house tonight."
"You have friends?" He sent you a look and you snickered. It was less amusing to him since you both went to the same school and therefore you knew he wasn't a loner. "Kidding." You ruffled his hair and patted the back of the motorcycle. He fixed his hair as he sat down and you handed your one helmet back to him. He sent you an inquisitive look as he put it on. "It wasn't part of my schedule to come to the police station to pick your sorry behind up so I didn't pack another helmet. I'll be fine." You pulled your brown fingerless gloves further up your arm then started up the machine. It roared to life and you turned back to Peter. "Where am I going?"
"I don't think my other friends are even awake right now. So is it possible I could...stay at yours?" He hesitantly met your eyes.
"You sure about that?" You frowned. "My blood relative isn't exactly like May, and he might drunkenly mistake you for me and yell at you." The real reason you didn't want him coming over is he didn't know how bad your home life was and you'd rather keep it that way. You'd rather stay the cool upperclassman that wears leather jackets and rides motorcycles.
