Sophomore year was the time you finally stepped up and asked your crush to homecoming with you. Peter had accidentally let it slip that he liked you when he went off on a rant after getting over the shock of you asking. You got together that same day.

A friend of yours, Liz, offered to carpool you and Peter and you agreed. You, Peter, and her date all squished into the back seat whilst she took the passenger seat. While her dad did talk to her date, he seemed much more interested in Peter. You didn't have a clue why but you assumed it had something to do with him being a dad.

When the rest of you got out of Liz's dad's car, he said he had to talk to Peter in private. You were confused but let it happen, and when Peter came inside, he looked shook. You asked if he was ok but he just told you he had to go, apologized, then left. You were left at the party with no date, as he never returned, and you had to pretend you were ok with it.

On Monday you walked up to him with hurt and anger written all over your face. You were going to give him what for, beat him up for leaving you alone, but his puppy eyes and feeble sorrys took a bigger toll on you than expected. You ended up grudgingly forgiving him and he thanked you with a kiss. From there on out your relationship was, well, pretty darn near perfect.

Then junior year. Homecoming came around and you went with your boyfriend again, but the same thing happened as last year. He left you not 30 minutes into the dance and you were forced to stand alone the whole time. Sure Ned kept you company with his date and Michelle did her best to lift your spirits by dissing Peter for leaving you, but it still hurt.

The next Monday you didn't talk to him and purposely avoided interacting with and even looking at him. He figured out he was getting the silent treatment because you were hurting quickly, and that night you were met with flowers and chocolates along with a very sorry Peter. After a little coaxing you let him inside. You put the flowers in a vase as Peter got a movie going. You ate the chocolates as you watched the movie cuddled on the couch.

Now, you've been dating Peter for about 2 years now, and you know he'd never purposely try to hurt you, but that doesn't mean you were going to make the same mistake this year for homecoming. You deserved a great homecoming senior year, and so, you asked someone else to homecoming with you: Flash.

Now wait, before you blow up, hear me out. The boy had changed alot since sophomore year, and though he was a douche back then, he had cleaned up his act and wasn't half-bad looking now. His girlfriend recently broke up with him and he was looking for some kind of rebound, so you offered to be it. It was his way of getting back at her, and in a sense, you were sort of doing the same thing to Peter.

You didn't tell Peter this, however. He assumed the two of you were going, so when playing video games at your house while you gave him a back message, he asked if you'd go with him. He said it in a casual manner, knowing you'd say yes because you were his girlfriend and he had nothing to worry about. But your reply shocked him so much he got killed (his character, not him).

"I'm going with someone else."

"W-What?" He sputtered, pausing his game to look at you. You ceased rubbing his back and shrugged.

"Well, the past two years you weren't there, so I just thought I should go with someone else so you don't have to leave me there alone." You offered a poor excuse of a smile.

"But I'll be there this year!" He protested.

"I'm sure that's what you thought last year, too." You let out a sigh. "I'm just trying to break the cycle." He didn't know what to say. "We can do something fun afterwards, alright?" He didn't like that idea but let it go, the guilt of his past mistakes telling him you deserved better, and if this other guy was actually going to be there for you, you should go with him.
