I'm really sorry for the short hiatus! I was trying to get motivation/inspiration back, but hopefully I'll be better about updating now.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
It seemed to me like we worked perfectly fine as a team. When Earth needed it's mightiest heroes we were there, fighting together to take down the threat like we did it every weekend (which sometimes happened to be the case). But for whatever reason Steve thought we needed to go on a team-building adventure to help strengthen our relationships.
I wasn't complaining too much. Sure it seemed stupid when I first heard about it but as soon as I was at the cabin (in a secluded spot in the woods in a town nobody but the residents knew of) my view changed completely. The cabin itself was quaint but not tight for space, and while the girls took the loft the boys took the main floor couches and basement.
After everyone settled in Steve announced we'd be making hotdogs cooked over a fire. I didn't think that had to anything with team-building but I'd never cooked my own hotdog before. It ended up being more entertaining than I thought when Thor bumped Tony causing Tony's dog to fall into the flames. They started arguing, and when Steve came over to resolve the situation he joined in on what had turned into a brawl at that point. Tony nearly fell in the fire before Wanda separated them.
Eventually the sun descended from the sky and everyone called it a night and headed inside. Cycling through the bathroom was weird (we were all used to having our own bedroom and bathroom to ourselves) and took forever for everyone to finish up. I joked I could see the sun coming back up by the time I got to use it.
But the next day was when the fun started. Steve announced at breakfast there was a river not too far from the cabin with strong currents we were going to cross without superpowers. It shouldn't be too difficultーafter all we're superheroes. Yeah, I was wrong there.
When Steve said strong he meant strong. The water was rushing past at impossible speeds (at least that's what it looked like) and most of it was white from constantly crashing into the rocks underwater. It looked like it was made for white water rafting but you'd die if you tried to cross it with a pathetic canoe. With an oar in hand and my life jacket buckled on, I waited for Steve to assign me a partner, hoping I got picked to be with someone strong.
"(Y/N) you're with Peter," Steve said, then pointed to the last canoe. "That one's yours."
"But Natasha and Bruce already have that one," I said.
"The one after that." I squinted at the last canoe in the row. Peter shared a confused look with me before walking down to see if there actually was a canoe there. His eyes widened and he beckoned me over, and once I joined him I saw why. It was roughly half the size of the other canoes, effectively hiding it behind Natasha and Bruce's.
I was about to ask why it was so small when Steve started shouting. "Person in the front get in, person in back it's your job to push the canoe out and hop in. Remember, this is about working together! Not being the first to the other side."
"You wanna be in the front or back?" Peter asked. I shrugged.
"I'm fine with either. What do you want?"
"I don't care either." It seems we've reached an impasse. Nat rolled her eyes at us as she pushed her canoe out onto the river, hopping inside.
"You should probably decide soon, we're gonna beat you," she called.
"This isn't a race," Steve yelled, somehow managing to hear it from the other side of the long line of canoes.
"I'll just be in front," I said, hopping inside the tiny canoe and taking Peter's oar. I tried to get comfy but the thing was so small I couldn't sit properly. Peter pushed the canoe into the water and hoisted himself inside, struggling to get situated before I handed him the oar. His knees were pressed into my back and I tried to scoot forward to no avail.
