Soulmate AU where you get a tattoo on your wrist of your soulmate within a year of turning 18

"Oh Ned, I love you so much!" you dramatically cupped his cheek, batting your eyelashes at him. He tried to stop the grin from spreading across his face as he stood with one leg bent up so his foot was touching his butt like women typically did while kissing the male love interest.

"Oh (Y/N), I love you more!" He couldn't suppress the giggles, and at his walls cracking, you bust up laughing with him. Peter and MJ looked at the two of you, unamused at your antics.

"We don't act like that," Peter protested. The two third wheels looked at the couple, faces dripping with disbelief before looking at each other and giggling again.

"Get a new joke, that one's getting old," MJ said, grabbing a book out to read as she held Peter's hand. The boy blushed and focused on his uneaten lunch, smiling to himself. It was no surprise that when the two got together, they did practically everything together. You and Ned got pushed to the sidelines and, well, you coped by making fun of them.

"C'mon Michelle, you know we love you." You made a heart with your hands and looked through it at the pair, but MJ merely scoffed.

"I don't swing that way."

"I'd join the other team for you." You winked dramatically then laughed. Use to your flirtatious nature, MJ stared you down. You blinked innocently, suppressing your giggles.

"I thought you liked Peter." Her comment threw you off guard, and the whole table went silent to hear your answer. A year ago you had admitted to MJ that you liked Peter, not realizing she liked him too. Cut to summer vacation and they were dating, so you can imagine how embarrassing that was. Since then you'd grown to see him as just another cute boy, and you cheered your bestie on for scoring him.

"You right," you spoke quickly, biting your lip in an over exaggerated f-boy way. You looked over at Peter to see his ears turn red at the attention, and he looked away. "I'd smash Spider-Man any day." He put his face in his hands as you laughed it off. MJ rolled her eyes. You told her multiple times you didn't like him anymore, so she trusted you were just joking. Truth was, you weren't so sure you were telling the truth. Those old feelings were stuffed down into the darkest corner of your mind, but they weren't gone. You were just holding out hope nothing would trigger them to come back.

The conversation continued amongst the 3 of them as you felt a sharp pain in your wrist. You winced and looked down at it, assuming it was just one of those random pangs people get for no reason, before you saw something appearing on your skin. It was like an invisible person was drawing on your wrist in black ink, delicately and painstakingly slowly writing down a name. Your soulmate! You watched excitedly as the letters formed, but as it slowly neared the end of the name, you felt your throat tighten. When the ink finally stopped appearing, you were frozen staring down at the name like it was going to change, like this was all a big prank, that Peter was definitely 100% not your soulmate.

"You okay (Y/N)?" Peter asked, making your head snap up. The other 3 were looking at you with confused and worried expressions. Ned reached over to take your arm in case you passed out.

"Did you see a ghost or something?" Ned asked, sounding almost like he was sure he guessed what happened.

"I..." Your throat was dry, you couldn't breathe, you needed to get out of there. "I need to go." You pulled away from Ned and sped out of the cafeteria, feeling nauseous and sick and ashamed and scared and a complete mess. You found yourself in an empty classroom down the hall a minute later, and you slid to the floor against the wall and stared through the desk in front of you. What were you going to do? You couldn't tell anyone, especially Peter or MJ. But that won't work forever. What about when both of them get their tattoos and realize Peter and you are soulmates?
