With filming Infinity War, Tom was never home. You wanted the movie to come out as soon as possible, especially considering it was only part one, but you also wanted to see your boyfriend. But with the reassurance that maybe he'd visit on Christmas, you were optimistic while he was away.
Christmas Eve was today, and you hadn't received a call from Tom all day. You thought for sure he'd call if he was going to make it back in time, and definitely if he wasn't, but you got nothing.
Sitting with a cup of hot cocoa in your hands and your phone on the coffee table in front of you, you sighed. Were you going to be alone this Christmas? You couldn't help but be pessimistic and conclude that yes, you'd be alone.
Your eyes wandered to the present under the treeーthe only one at thatーfrom you to Tom that you apparently wouldn't be able to give him until after Christmas was over. The decorations you had set up in the hopes that someone besides yourself would be able to see them seemed to mock you as they flashed their brilliant colors. Maybe you should've waited until you knew he was coming before decorating.
Downing the rest of the cocoa, you got up to head to the kitchen to put it in the sink. You went back to retrieve your phone, and at still seeing no notifications, you headed up to bed. After getting in comfy pjs and brushing your teeth, you slid into bed. You stared at the spot Tom usually occupied and exhaled loudly, closing your eyes.
When you woke up, you checked your phone again. Nothing. However, you still had a secret stash of hope. Slipping out of bed, you ran down the stairs and into the family room, where the tree was standing tall. But there was still only one present, no Tom or box Tom could fit in anywhere. Next you ran to the front door, throwing it open to see if anything/anybody was there. But no, just a pile of fluffy white snow.
Slowly closing the door, you hung your head. You thought, maybe, he'd surprise you by turning up unexpected and greet you with one of his award-winning smiles and a kiss. No, that only happens in books. What were you thinking?
You dragged yourself to the kitchen to get more cocoa. You would've had tea any other morning but in an effort to keep in the Christmas spirit you decided to drink cocoa instead. Maybe later today you'd take a walk and visit some friends to try and bring back the Christmas cheer you were supposed to be feeling. Tis the season after all.
Then you heard the front door open and shut relatively quietly. You were about to grab a knife when you heard the two intruders bump into each other and mutter 'Ow's. Their voices sounded familiar.
"Do you think she's still asleep?" Tom's voice came from the family room and a smile lit up your face.
"Yeah. She's gonna be so surprised when she wakes up!" Harrison answered, sounding as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning. You set your mug on the counter and walked over to stand just outside of the family room.
"Look, it's a present for you," Harrison said, probably looking at the present under the tree.
"Shhhhh, we don't wanna wake her up," Tom whisper-yelled. You peeked your head past the doorway to see what they were doing and locked eyes with Tom. A smile broke out on his face and he ran over, enveloping you in a hug. You laughed and hugged him back.
"I thought you weren't going to make it," you whispered, making him pull away.
"I wouldn't do that to you." He pushed a few strands of hair out of your face and placed his lips tenderly on yours.
"You were awake when we got here, weren't you?" Harrison frowned, crossing his arms. You pulled away from Tom to give Harrison a hug as well.
"Yeah. You two were pretty noisy, too."
"That was Harrison's fault," Tom said.
"I didn't suddenly stop for no reason so you could crash into me," Harrison gave him a pointed look.
"You two sound cranky," you commented, heading to the kitchen. "You want breakfast?"
"Yes!" Harrison answered instantly, perking up at the word 'breakfast'.
"We already had breakfast," Tom replied.
"But I'm still hungry, and your food doesn't suck." Harrison begged you with the best puppy eyes he could muster and you smiled.
"Just tell me if you want any real food, Tom." You disappeared into the kitchen. Well, looks like Christmas isn't gonna suck after all.
Merry Christmas everyone!
