The door slowly creaked open, and appearing in the crack between the door and doorway were two sets of eyes. They blinked and looked around, trying to spot if anyone was in the area, and at spotting no one, one of them pushed the door open a little more. The pair crept out into the hall, careful to keep their footsteps silent.
The smaller one bumped into a table and stumbled back. The big one picked the smaller one up, placing it on their hip, and continued in the direction it initially started for. The smaller one looked behind itself, checking for any sign of life. Nobody was there.
When the big one stepped inside the room, both pairs of eyes instantly zoned in on the object they were after. It was a jar containing precious items inside, ones that would be most valuable to the small and big ones. But, just as the big one removed the lid and gave an item to the small one, the light turned on.
The pair whirled around to see Aunt May had caught them red-handed. You quickly put the cookie in your hands behind your back as Peter stood up straighter, holding you in a casual manner with an innocent expression as if that would help him escape May's wrath. May's steely-eyed glare passed from child to teen then back to child again. The silence surrounding the three was only broken when you abruptly sneezed, covering your mouth with the back of the hand holding the cookie.
May sighed and her threatening aura vanished as she dropped her hands from her hips. "I told you two only one cookie tonight."
"(Y/N) was hungry," Peter instantly said, pushing the blame onto you. May looked down at you and you stared back, trying your hand at what Peter called the puppy-eyed look. May sighed once more and walked over to take you from Peter's arms.
"To bed, mister." She sent a look Peter's way and he turned to leave. You stared after him, wanting to follow, but sadly you were stuck in the clutches of an aunt bent on bringing you up with discipline. As Peter disappeared from sight you faced May, fear mingled with shame in your eyes.
However, May's face broke out into a worried expression. "Are you still hungry?" You nodded, surprised at the sudden change of demeanor. "Here, you can have another cookie." She headed for the jar and let you select another. Now with a cookie in both of your hands, May headed to the table and set you down in a chair. "Would you like some milk, too?" You nodded, nibbling on a cookie. You had to admit that was a rather interesting turn of events.
It had been over a month since you were first brought in by the Parker's, and you could say without a doubt in your mind that living with them was 50 million bajillion times better than living alone on the streets. Peter said you were no longer malnourishedーyou had no clue what that was, and when you asked him he said it was a bad thingーand you couldn't see your ribs or feel every crevice of your bones anymore. You also felt a lot more lively, like you actually had energy to do things and not collapse while doing them. The whole first week was a process of adjusting to life in a home with kind strangers, as well as going to see a doctor. The doctor's office was really weird and it smelled odd, and he had all these tools that he used to peer in your ears and tap your knees with. Both May and Peter were there with you so it wasn't too scary, though.
Aunt May set a small cup of milk in front of you with a small smile. You grinned up at her, showing off the cookie bits in your mouth. She shook her head and chuckled, taking a seat beside you.
"You can't tell Peter about this, ok? He'll get jealous," she said. You nodded, biting into the cookie.
"Why didn't I get a cookie?" Peter demanded, glaring down at the woman before him. May sighed loudly and turned to you, who looked up at her with an 'Oopsy' face.
"You don't need the extra sweets," May replied, going back to wiping the table down with a wet rag. Peter pouted and crossed his arms. You giggled, making both of them turn to you.
