Another Daddy-Daughter one!Peter was walking home from school, tired and ready to hit the hay. Most days he'd rather go out and about being Spidey but today was an exception. But this week was no ordinary week, and today was a very different day than most other days. For this week was finals week, and today he had 3 finals. He had gotten little to no sleep last night because he was studying so hard, and the only reason he didn't fall asleep during the finals was because he was jacked up on energy drinks and coffee.
Peter nearly passed a little girl standing in an alleyway he was so looking forward to his nap. When he realized there was something off about her, he stopped and took a couple steps back to gaze at her. She was wearing dirty clothes, tears and patches in more than one spot on the dress, and was carrying a worn out teddy bear in her arms. She was leaned up against a building like it was her only source of support. Her eyes looked sunken and they didn't shineーthey were like dull rocks with no way to reflect light.
They peered up at Peter and his own eyes widened. She opened her mouth and made a noise, something between a groan and a squawk. Her eyes rolled up into her head and she swayed on her feet, about to pass out and tip over, so Peter swiftly swooped in and caught her.
She couldn't have been more than 3 years old, but she was lighter than a baby. He could clearly feel the bones in her arms, and now that he was this close, he could tell she probably hadn't eaten in a week. She was malnourished and needed food, as well as water, shelter, and clothes.
Peter stood up with her in his arms and spun in a circle, looking for anyone that could possibly be the parent of this poor child. But he found no one. No one even cared that a child was going to die, everyone just keep walking by him.
Peter scowled at no one in particular and shifted the backpack on his back so it was more comfortably placed, then held the girl carefully and securely as he walked back towards home. If no one else was going to help her, he knew he and Aunt May would.
As soon as he entered the house, May looked up from the table she was sat at. Her question of how the finals went died in her throat as she took in the view of the dirty child with her teddy bear still tightly held in her hands. May was beside her nephew in an instant.
"What's wrong? Who's she? Where did you find her?" She fired off questions one after the other. Peter ignored them all and brought the girl to the couch, setting her down carefully on top of the cushions. The girl subconsciously nestled into the comfy surface, not used to the level of relaxation the couch provided.
"Peter?" Aunt May set her hand on his shoulder. He turned to her with a partly peeved and partly concerned expression.
"She's starving, can you get me some food for when she wakes up?" Peter asked. May nodded and went to the kitchen to prepare a sandwich. Peter continued. "I found her in the streets. She nearly fell and cracked her head open....could hardly stand up on her own." Peter's voice broke. "I couldn't leave her there."
"Do her parents know she's here?"
"I don't know if she has parents; I didn't see anybody."
"Huh," May mumbled, her brow creased. Peter stood from the girl's side and retrieved a cup from the kitchen to fill with water. He ran back to her side and paused.
"Can I pour this in her mouth or not?" Peter asked with a worried undertone. He saw it happen in the movies, but that was usually after a certain character was dehydrated and 'passed out'. He had no doubt the girl was low on fluids, but he wasn't sure if some of the water would go down the wrong pipe or not.
"Try a little bit, a few drops maybe." May wasn't sure but a few drops wouldn't hurt, right? Peter slowly tilted the cup so the water went to the edge and fell in between her lips, which were slightly parted. Nothing happened, and he turned to May for what to do next. "Maybe a little more?" She suggested hesitantly. He poured a little more, bringing the cup closer to her mouth so he didn't spill. The girl swallowed and Peter sighed in relief. He didn't kill her.
