He knew he wasn't going to get there in time. The girl's scream echoed in his ears as he squeezed his eyes shut and pulled up just in time to avoid getting hit by the bus himself. Gravity didn't take effect for a second, but then it tugged him back down to earth where the runaway bus had splattered the girl across the pavement.
But the girl was just fine, lying on her side an inch from the tire marks. Her eyes were wide, seemingly unable to believe the turn of events. Peter was just as surprised. He thought for sure she was deadーof course he was ecstatic she lived! It was just....a miracle.
He ran to her side and reached out to help her up. She shakily took his hand, the glove covering it preventing him from feeling her skin. Her hands looked soft.
"H-How...?" she muttered.
"Are you ok, miss?" Peter asked, watching her eyes finally meet his. They were a pretty (E/C) color.
"I...I think so..." Her gaze switched to the wreckage of the bus, which had finally come to a stop when it smashed into a building a ways away. The bus was hijacked by a supervillain with teleportation powers, one Peter had been trying to catch for weeks to no avail.
"You're not hurt anywhere?"
"No..." She replied almost hesitantly, like she wasn't sure if she should be in pain.
"The paramedics should be here soon, they'll check you out."
"Ok." He hesitantly took a step back, as if worried she'd topple if he let go. She seemed fine, if a little shaken up, so he turned to swing over to the bus when she grabbed his arm. "Thanks...Spider-man." She smiled and he felt himself grin back automatically.
"No problem."
"It's the girl," Peter whispered excitedly to Ned. Ned tried to follow his gaze but it led to a group of girls.
"Which one?"
"(H/C) hair with a bow in it."
"Oh!" He stared at her. "She's pretty."
"She smiled at me," Peter said.
"At the Spider-man," Ned said, giving him a look.
"That's me."
"That's the mask, she couldn't see you."
"Whatever." Peter huffed, setting his chin on his crossed arms. He watched the girl interact with the other females. She pulled out a piece of paper and pointed to it, saying something, and one of the girls pointed at Michelle. She walked over to Michelle and held up the paper, nervously asking the sophomore something. Michelle dully looked between the paper and the girl before giving a response.
The girl waited as Michelle got up from her seat and grabbed her thingsーeven from his seat Peter could tell she was intentionally taking as long as possibleーbefore leading the girl towards the cafeteria door. Peter jumped to his feet, figuring this was his chance to talk to her. He followed them, and after a few turns he figured out their destination to be their next class which, conveniently, Peter shared.
He caught up and casually stuck his hands in his pockets. "Hey Michelle. Who's she?"
"A new student," Michelle replied blandly, looking him up and down. There had to be a reason for his sudden appearance.
"What's your name?" he asked the girl. She smiledーa beautiful thing that made butterflies flutter in his stomach.
"(Y/N)."
"I'm Peter, Peter Parker."
"Nice to meet you." She really meant it.
"Do you have Biology next?"
