Soulmate AU: a timer on your wrist counts down till you meet your soulmate. When it reaches zero it flashes. Then it sits there uselessly until the day your soulmate dies, which is when it falls off.
Today's the day! You nearly skipped down the sidewalk, checking your wrist every few seconds like it would show zeroes. You could hardly keep your eyes off it as the days turned to 0, then the hours turned to 0, now you were down to 10 minutes. The moment couldn't come fast enough.
9 minutes, 45 seconds. You weren't really sure why you were briskly walking along the sidewalk, you just felt like you should. It was like a sense that led you to the spot it happened. Your best friend said it felt like a tug on her heart to be reunited with its other half. She got pulled all the way across the city, and you wouldn't hesitate to do the same thing just to find him.
7 minutes, 5 seconds. Amazing how slowly time passes when you're hanging on every second. You tried not to think about it in an effort to make it pass faster but failed miserably. This was the biggest moment of your life, it was impossible not to think about.
5 minutes, 35 seconds. Was it just you or were the seconds taking twice as long to pass?
4 minutes, 23 seconds. You were spending more time looking down at your wrist than where you were walking.
3 minutes, 42 seconds. You were bouncing at this point. It felt like you drank 10 5-hour energy drinks.
2 minutes, 17 seconds. You couldn't pry your eyes from your wrist.
1 minute.
50 seconds.

"Look out!" You looked up in shock as a truck barrelled towards you. When did you get on the road?! Just as the truck was about to splatter you across the road, someone snatched you up. It took your brain a second to process the fact that you didn't die and were safely on the other side of the street.
"What-"
"Are you okay?" You looked into the mask of Spider-man as he put his hand on your shoulder. Your timer was flashing.
"Yeah, I..." The moment was here but your stupid mouth couldn't talk. It was him, he was your soulmate.
"Good. No more walking in front of traffic, alright?" He pointed at you as he backed up, and at your nod, he shot a web out of sight and swung off.
"Wait!" But he was gone.
"I'm so stupid!" you whined for the hundredth time. Your friend patted your back, sighing.
"Hey, at least you know who he is, right? He's kind of hard to miss."
"But what are my chances of seeing him again? Like, none! This city's huge and he's got bigger problems than me." You slumped against the counter. You two were working together at a deli her dad owned but business was slow as usual and you were too depressed to work.
"Don't you think he's wondering who his soulmate is?" You looked up at her, eyes wide. "He has no clue. You said he swung off before you could say anything, so that must mean he didn't notice his hit the big zero til some time later. He has no clue who his soulmate is."
