Wrote this on the Fourth of July so I guess it's a holiday one?

"Please tell me you have the answer to number 13," you pleaded, turning around in your seat to face Peter. He took a few seconds to think as you waited (impatiently).

"Yeah, hydrogen." He slid his homework towards you and, after checking his work, you copied it onto your own sheet.

"Thank you so much." You sat back in relief. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Aw, when's the wedding invitation?" Flash--who you didn't remember including in this conversation--chimed in mockingly.

"We're not dating, Flash." You turned to glare at him. It seemed every other week you had to tell someone that you and Peter weren't in a relationship. "We're just good friends."

"Right," Peter agreed, sounding a little less enthused.

"Well yeah, obviously," Flash recovered. "Parker could never get a girlfriend!" A few students next to him laughed. Peter rested his head on his arms as you turned back to him.

"Don't listen to him, at least you don't have to pay someone to date you." Flash stood just as the teacher walked in, saving you from his fury. You snickered into your hand as he slowly sat down, sending you the 'I'll get you later for that' look.

Peter smiled at you. Since you'd met the boy next door, you'd been inseparable. It only made sense his aunt and your parents became good friends too, what with how much you forced them to interact just to play with each other. It only made sense he'd eventually fall in love.

"We're doing group projects today, two people to a project and I want it done by Friday," the teacher said. Peter looked to you, expecting you to be staring back at him already deciding what parts of the project each of you would do, but instead you were staring across the room. He followed your gaze to see Percy, a popular guy with all the girls because of his looks (but an otherwise lack of brains).

"Hey, Pete, you don't mind if I work with Percy for this one, do you?" You hardly spared him a glance, already antsy to ask Percy to be your partner. Putting aside his feelings, he did what any good friend would and nodded.

"Yeah, that's fine, I'll just...do it alone." You turned around and took his hand. His ears turned red at the contact.

"Next time I'll work with you, promise." You grinned. "Besides, I want to work with someone who'll actually think I'm smart."

"I think you're smart," he protested.

"But I'm not compared to you." You patted his hand and stood, anxiously approaching the boy of your dreams. Peter watched you go, a pit forming in his gut. How could he let you walk off like that? Because you were his best friend and that's all you'd ever be. The sooner he realized that the better. He stood and headed to the front to ask the teacher if he could work alone, passing you on the way.

"You actually know what he's talking about?" Percy was asking, pointing at the teacher.

"Yeah, but I'm not a nerd or anything," you said quickly, just excited to be sitting next to him.

"So you could do this whole project by yourself and get an A?"

"Yeah." Peter rolled his eyes. Percy was just going to use her, how could she not see that? Whatever, it wasn't his place. But he couldn't keep his mouth shut.

"You know he's using you right?" Peter asked, out of breath.

"What? Who?" you, equally out of breath, asked. The two of you were playing Just Dance in your apartment, and while neither of you were good dancers by any means, it was fun.
