(Y/n's P.O.V)
Have you ever been told you had to be perfect, but you are the furthest thing from goddamn perfect there is?
Hi, I'm Y/n Malfoy! As a Malfoy, I am expected to live the perfect Pureblood life—the rich, stuck-up Slytherin who thinks they own the school.
My little brother is the perfect image of this life; I am on the other end. Upon arrival at Hogwarts two years ago, I was sorted into Gryffindor. My parents were appalled, but I didn't hear from them for months. Father sent many letters to Headmaster Dumbledore to try and rectify the 'error.'
I heard from my brother again when I got home for the holidays, though Father made me feel like I wasn't welcome there. The return of term was welcome. I was glad to be back at school, away from my father's cold shoulder.
As if I couldn't be any more disappointed,t, I had made friends with the one family my family hates most in this work: the Weaslys. Fred and George were in Gryffindor in my year; they were in all my classes. The boys had introduced me to their brothers, and the five of us often hung out together, playing games in the common room.
My parents would disown me if they knew I hung out with the Weasley clan. They have invited me to stay at their home over the holidays. I want to go, but I need to figure out how to ask without telling them I was staying at the Weaslys.
It would be nice to get away from the stress of my family for a bit longer before Draco starts school next year; I don't know how I will hide my friendships next year.
"Y/n!!" George's voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"It's your turn!" Charlie smiled at me as I looked over at him.
We were sitting around a table in the common room, George on my left, Fred on my right, Percy with his nose in a book next to Fred and Charlie next to George.
This was likely our last game with Charlie at Hogwarts, as he graduates in a couple of weeks. From now on, he has to focus on his studies, with exams starting next week.I flipped my cards for exploding snaps. I always tried to get faster at it every time, but sadly, the fact that I had been distracted meant that this time, I couldn't beat the time, and the cards exploded.
George and Charlie high-fived across the table. We had been split into pairs; when the cards exploded, it meant Fred and I lost again.
"Y/n, what's up? You are usually the best player but have lost the last three games." Fred whispered, taking my hand.
Fred and I had grown especially close over the last couple of years. Over the previous two months, we had started dating in secret. It would be hard enough to hide my friendships from my brother, let alone a boyfriend, especially when all the girls in Gryffindor were crushing on Fred and George.
"Y/n?" Fred squizzed my hand slightly, bringing me back down to Earth.
"Sorry! I was trying to think of what to write in my letter to my parents." I smile weakly.
"I thought you had already sent it! It's only weeks away!" He whispered back.
"I know; I'm sorry; I just don't know how to say it without being disowned." I sighed.
"So what if you get disowned? You could come live at the Burrow!" We had everyone at the table's attention now. Even Percy looked up from his book.
"Your Mum already has seven kids she doesn't need anymore." I was furious that he had even suggested it.
I pulled my hand out of his and stormed upstairs, not wanting to continue the conversation.I just hoped the others at the table didn't notice our linked hands as I pulled mine away from Fred's. Though our hands had been under the table, it was hard to miss the sharp yanking motion as I withdrew my hand.
