Merry Christmas to you all!!!

When I'm writing this, it is still December 19th, but the Christmas celebrations are in full swing. I have just started my holidays as my service is closed; I won't be going anywhere for Christmas; we will spend it at home with family.

Yesterday we did my favorite new Christmas tradition, my mother works for a volunteer-based company her role is not a volunteer position, but she works with people living on the streets needing homes, people coming out of prison with nowhere to go. She takes them from the prison to get everything they need then to a common living home with two to three other people and support their journey back into society.

They have been doing this for years but we started last year, each year they get together baskets of food for each of the participants, long life food like cans of soup, spaghetti and beans, there is so much more then that and for Mum's 30 participants we get baskets and fill them up with food then some of them have kids and grandkids so we get toys donated from the community and we pick things out based on the age group and wrap them up to give to them.

That is one of my favorite Christmas traditions and this year we are actually going to be on the local news for it, so we can spread the news about it and next year more people will know about it and more people can donate. We already had so many left over toys that will be put aside for next year or other events throughout the year, and the leftover food will be handed out to other people in need.

There are places like this all over the world who collect toys and food for those in need so this Christmas if you can afford to buy an extra can of long-life food, or an extra bottle of long-life milk and donate it to your nearby community pantry. A little goes a long way.
