(3rd Person P.O.V)

The days that followed their conversations on the Astronomy Tower brought subtle changes. Fred's jokes still came fast and sharp, and Y/n rolled her eyes at them, but there was a warmth between them now-something unspoken that neither seemed ready to put into words.

Just days before the Yule Ball, Fred found Y/n again while studying in the library.

"Still studying?" He asked, pulling out a chair and sitting across from her.

"Fred! Are you lost again?" Y/n jumped, not hearing him approach.

"No! I know where I am! This is the kitchen, right?" He joked getting a little chuckle out of Y/n.

Fred leaned forward resting his chin on the palm of his hand.

"So are you going to the Yule Ball with anyone?" He asked curious.

The question caught Y/n off guard. She hesitated a moment, her quill hovering over the parchment.

"I wasn't planning on going." She decided to tell him instead of saying no one had asked her.

"What! Why not?" Fred frowned.

"It's not really my thing, fancy dress, awkward small talk, dancing-it all seems a bit... pointless." In all honesty Y/n had wanted to go but no one had asked her, especially not the person she wanted to go with.

Fred studied her a moment before leaning back in his chair.

"You're missing the point love." He argued.

"Enlighten me, then." She placed her quill down, turning to look at him giving him her full attention.

"It's not about the dresses or the dancing. It's about the people. Spending time with friends, making memories. And you know... Maybe spending time with someone special." His voice was soft but as he got to the last part he hesitated brushing his hand through his hair.

"Someone special, huh? And I suppose you've already got a date lined up?"

"Not yet. But I was hoping you might want to go with me." Y/n blinked, completely caught of guard.

She opened her mouth to respond but no words came out. Fred took her silence as hesitation and quickly added.

"I mean, no pressure or anything. I just thought it might be fun. You know, us together. At the Ball." Y/n could see in his eyes that he was genuine almost nervous.

Her heart raced as she looked at him, the playful glint in his eyes tempered by genuine vulnerability. For all his jokes and pranks, Fred Weasley was serious about this. About her.

"All right, Weasley I'll go to the Ball with you."  She smiled finally.

"Brillant! I promise, you won't regret it." He got up to leave with a grin on his face.

"Fred?" He turned; his hands shoved into his pockets. "Thanks for asking."

"Anytime, Love. Anytime." He turned and left.

The days leading up to the Yule Ball were a whirlwind if excitement and chaos. The castle buzzed with students whispering about dates, dress robes, and dance partners Y/n, however, couldn't help but feel out of place in all of it.

Y/n sat in the library one day trying to avoid the buzz, her mind preoccupied. She'd agreed to go to the Ball with Fred, and the thought made her stomach do flips. He was different-more than the joker everyone thought he was. And that terrified her.

"Thinking about me again, Love?" Fred grinned as he sat in his usual spot across form her.

"Don't flatter yourself Weasley." She retorted, though the corners of her lips  betrayed a smile.

"Too late. What's on your mind?" He leant back stretching out his long legs.

"I don't even know what I'm supposed to wear to this thing! Papa gave me money for a dress, but I haven't been to Hogsmeade much the occasions we do go we go to Honey Dukes and The Three Broomsticks, so I don't even know where to looks. Everyone's talking about how bedazzled their gowns are in bright colors and their dates are matching their dress robes." Y/n sighed feeling a bit overwhelmed.

"I haven't gotten my dress robes yet so we could go now. I know how to get to Hogsmeade without anyone even knowing we are gone. I'll get George to cover for us." He grinned jumping up grabbing Y/n' hand and dragging her out.

He ran through the halls still holding her hand as he ran to the Gryffindor common room, dragging her in and over to a couch where George and Lee were sitting with a couple of the Weasley Wizarding Wheezes products.

Y/n stood feeling awkward being in a common room that was not her own, she scanned the space admiring it, while Fred spoke to his brother. Whatever Fred had asked his brother to do he nodded as Fred once again took Y/n's hand and escorted her out.

They made their way to the Three Eyed Witch passageway which brought them out in Honeydukes. Fred insisted on getting Y/n a couple of chocolate frogs before they made their way to a nearby robe shop.

Fred quickly ran off pulling out dresses from the racks showing them to Y/n. First a stunning red gown, then a sparkly Navy Blue, and then a simple Lilac while all of them looked amazing Y/n didn't think they were the one but the next dress he pulled was a majestic Dark Green.

It was light and flowy, an off the shoulder dress simple but elegant. It was perfect.

Fred picked out a plain Black Dress robe (Much like Harry's from the movie) he got a green bowtie to match her dress before they paid and left, they didn't stop for anything else as they didn't want to get caught sneaking out on a school night

(Y/n's P.O.V)

Upon arrival back to Hogwarts I went straight to my dorm to put my gown away. I was now really looking forward to the Yule Ball.

That evening, I couldn't help but try on the gown, it hugged my figure in just the right places. As I spun around the gown flowing with the movement. I could feel a sense of nervousness building in the pit of my stomach but thinking about Fred's grin, his easy laugh, and the way he looked at me like I was the only person in the room, I couldn't help the flutter of anticipation building.

Maybe the ball wouldn't be so bad after all.
