(First off, sorry for not posting on December 25th. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Las Posada, and Happy Holidays. I would love to know what you celebrate and how, if you don't celebrate anything, how are you spending your holidays?
My family celebrates Christmas by getting up early and grabbing our stockings while we wait for our parents to wake up. Two of three of my siblings who moved outstayed the night, so when my sister's kids got up, my parents got up, though if my Dad got his way, we would have been up at 3 am. We all open gifts and then have a nice, simple breakfast. The rest of the day is chill; we prep everything, including the food, beforehand, so lunch and dinner are relatively straightforward. My family spends much of the day together, or most of us do...
Please comment on how you spent the day and your favourite holiday tradition. Anyway, on with the story!)
(3rd Person P.O.V)
The Hogwarts Halls were decked in gold and silver; there were trees in every classroom, Common Room and the Great Hall; lights adorned every corridor, each dorm decked in trees, and candles decorated for every celebration (I don't know much about the other celebrations so this story will be Christmas and I'm sorry about that) As Hogwarts woke up Y/n was woken by her roommates as they busied themselves with packing the last couple of items before they went home for Christmas break later that day.
Y/n didn't see the excitement for Christmas; it was like any other day of the year. Her Dad went to Azkaban when she was three, and her Papa was an outcast even within the magical world. No one would give him a job so he couldn't get her gifts. They barely had enough food. Her parents hadn't married before her Dad went to Azkaban so they couldn't access his fortune. Just before he went to Azkaban Sirius, Y/n's Dad had given Remus, her Papa, enough money for his suit, and their friend James gave him a couple of ships to put towards Y/n's school stuff. Remus usually wouldn't accept money from his friends and fiancé.
Still, James had snuck the money into the gift he and Lilly gave Y/n for her birthday, and Sirius, well, his money would have been shared between them in just a short couple of months; that and after much persuasion, Sirius was paying for the wedding anyway.
Y/n didn't have her hopes up that this year would be different. Yes, her Papa had a job, but she wasn't expecting gifts. They needed the money for food and clothes. Getting out of bed, she changed into simple tracks and a jumper. Heading down to the teacher lounge today, it was Christmas Eve. Remus had to stay at Hogwarts over Christmas so his daughter would stay with him in his dorms.
(Y/n's P.O.V)
On my way down to my Papa's dorm, I ran into one of my best friends, Fred Weasley.
"Hey Freddy!!!" I greeted him.
"Hey, Sweetheart!" Every time he called me that, my heart did backflips. I don't know why.
"Are you not going home for Christmas?" I asked as I looked down, feeling a blush come to my cheeks.
"Nah, my brothers and I are staying at Hogwarts. Means I have more time to spend with you!" He winked at me as I looked back up at him.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm spending the holidays with my Papa," I told him with a slight smile.
"Come on, you spend all your free time with Professor Lupin. Can't you spare a few days to hang out with me?" I looked down at my feet again.
A black dog jumped before me as he finished speaking, facing him and growling. The dog looked pissed. Fred looked terrified as the dog turned on him, lowering its body as it crept closer.
"Y/n, RUN!" Fred called to me as the dog seemed to falter, confused almost, and then it clicked...
This was no dog; I remembered the black fur, the scratches on the dog's back, and how one of its front teeth was croaked.
"Dad..." I said barely more than a whisper.
The dog turned the anger in his eyes, gone, in its place a loving, gentle look. Fred ran past the dog, pushing me behind him to stand between us. The dog growled again.
"It's okay, Dad; he knows you're innocent." The dog looked up and down the corridors before it shifted back into my Dad.
I pushed Fred's arm to the side as I ran into my Dad's arms.
"Pup! I've missed you!" My Dad cried as he pulled me close.
"I missed you too, Dad!" I cried.
"Ummm, I'm just going to leave then." Fred awkwardly muttered, backing away.
Dad growled again, making Fred stop in his tracks.
"Dad! This is Fred, he is my best friend! He won't tell anyone he saw you, I promise!" They both looked at me, their eyes almost identical. Dad had some sadness and happiness mixed in with a look of love. Oddly enough, Fred was full of love; maybe he was touched by the reunion between my Dad and me because he knew how much I missed my Dad.
"Moments ago, he was trying to force you into spending time with him!" Dad pointed out.
"I haven't been able to spend much time with Fred and George, his twin, so they just wanted to hang out over the break," I reassured him.
"I was hoping we could hang out, just the two of us. Don't get me wrong, I love Georgie, but I was hoping maybe you would consider being my girlfriend?" My jaw dropped, and so it seems my dad did.
"Omg...." I didn't get to finish my excited reply when my Dad charged at Fred.
"DAD LEAVE HIM BE!!" I scream as I chase him. I swear, if it weren't for the fact he was my Dad, I would have killed this man right then and there to ruin this moment, but I hadn't seen the man in almost a whole lifetime.
"What if you get caught? I would lose you all over again." This made him stop. "If you calm down, we can see Papa, and he can help us keep you safe so you never have to leave me again!"
Dad turned back and came back towards me.
"Remus is here?" I nod in reply.
"You have to change back to the dog first, though, so no one sees you." He turned back into a dog, and we went to Papa's rooms. Fred was already there waiting for me.
"I see your Dad stuck around." Fred stepped back a little as they glared at one another.
"Yeah, he hasn't seen Papa in twelve years. I'm surprised you are still here. I thought you would go back to your dorm." I smiled, my heart warming.
"I wanted to know your answer first?" He must be brave, attempting to ask me out in front of my Dad again.
"Yes. Now go!" Fred went to kiss me on the cheek, but Dad growled, so Fred hugged me and ran away.
