(Y/n's P.O.V)

Hi, I'm Y/n, the oldest daughter of Newt and Tina Scamander. Growing up around Fantastic Beast, naturally, Care of Magic Creatures was my favourite class at Hogwarts.

As the end of the year approached, Hagrid assigned us an assignment. We were split into pairs, and each was given a Bowtruckle. We had two weeks to look after them, taking them everywhere; of course, Hagrid had to borrow some from my Dad to have enough. I may have an unfair advantage. Picket is a shy little Bowtruckle, so my best friend Fred, who also happens to be my cousin, and I were assigned Picket because he likes us both.

I had spent my whole life caring for these bow truckles. Fred had interacted with them in the last couple of years but had never looked after them.We sat near the pond, Picket climbing between us while I read my father's book for the millionth time.

As I turned to page 9, finding the paragraph I needed, I read it out loud;

"The Bowtruckle is a tree-guardian creature found mainly in the west of England, southern Germany and certain Scandinavian forests. It is difficult to spot, being small (maximum eight inches in height) and made of bark and twigs with two small brown eyes. In the wizarding world, they are highly valued for their ability to guard wand trees, which are used to make wands for witches and wizards.

The Bowtruckle, which eats insects, is a peaceable and intensely shy creature, but if the tree in which it lives is threatened, it has been known to leap down upon the woodcutter or tree surgeon, attempting to harm its home and gouge at its their eyes with its long sharp fingers. An offering of woodlice will placate the Bowtruckle long enough to let a witch or wizard remove wand wood from its tree.

Bowtruckles fall under XX, which means they are completely harmless and can even be tamed." I explained to Fred.

"Eww, they eat bugs?" Fred asked, smiling.

"Correct, and seeing as Hogsmead weekend just passed, we won't be able to go buy bugs till next weekend, so for this week, we need to catch some!" I hummed as Picket climbed into my pocket at the approach of George and Lee.

"Hey, Y/n! Mind watching our bow-truckle too?" George asked.

"How about you pick up your copy of my Dad's book and read it? Then I can help you! Fred and I will collect bugs during lunch. Read up on them before then, and you can come with us." I told them, trying to encourage Picket out.

"During lunch?!?! But I want lunch!" Fred pouted.

"And? Do you think they don't want lunch, too? They get three meals a day and occasionally a snack in between. You can eat whenever you want. There are always snacks in the Great Hall." I huffed.

"Have fun with that bro!" George went to get up and walked away as the bell went for the next class.

"You will all meet me back here at the end of class! Or else!" I started daggers at the boys before they all sprinted away. "Well, Picket, it's just us! Let's get some bugs because I don't trust those boys."

Picket and I worked together to catch bugs, which I put into jars and in my bag before meeting the others when class ended.

I sat and waited a while before George and Lee arrived to sit with me.

"Where is Fred?" I asked the boys.

"He said something about lunch and left," George told me.

"Of course he did. Shall we go then?" We all got up and started gathering our stuff.

As we went to leave, we heard heavy footsteps behind us.

"Hey guys! Leaving already?" Fred asked as he ran over the bag in his hand.

"I didn't think you were going to join us!" I glared at him.

"Of course I am. I just went to grab sandwiches so we can eat!" he said, pulling a bag of sandwiches out.

(I'm halfway through writing this chapter when I realize it's April 1st, April Fools' Day, and then it dawns on me...
