(Y/n's P.O.V)
People say you shouldn't date coworkers, but when coworkers were first classmates what then? Besides work is everything, I go home once a year it's not like I have time to meet anyone else. Besides Neville isn't like the rest of my coworkers, for one he isn't fifty years older than I. Most of my coworkers were my teachers when I was a student. Neville was in the year above me, I had gotten my acceptance letter a year late so I would have been in his year, I'm older by some months. Our paths never really crossed in school. I started work as a Transfigurations professor just over a year ago, Neville joined the Hogwarts team five months ago as Herbology Professor.
Neville and I spend lines off and weekends together, working on paperwork and chatting. We had spoken a lot but this week was the first time he mentioned a girlfriend... Luna. Who is better at finding information on crushes and their girls than besties, they are like the Aurors or the muggle police only better.
'Hello my friends,
I have a request, I need some information on some people. Names Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood.
Thank you girls in advance for your help.
I'll see you girls this weekend can't wait to catch up!
Love Always,
Y/n Y/l/n'
I folded the letter sealing it before getting up and got up making my way out to send the letter.
I was watching my feet as I walked thinking over what I had in my hand, what I might find.
"ooft" As I bumbed into someone I found myself falling to the floor.
"Enjoy your trip?" Neville asked with a laugh as I got up.
"Ha-Ha" I brushed myself off as he lent down to pick up the letter.
I quickly grabbed the letter from his hand as he passed it over.
"Something important?" He asked as I stashed the letter in my pocket.
"Umm... no, just confirming stuff for seeing my friends this weekend. We share secrets and stuff sometimes... This holds the name of a friends crush; she doesn't want it getting out." I'm not very good at lying, I also tend to over share... a lot.
"Okay? I'll see you in the office after? I've got a bunch of paperwork I may need your help with."" I often help Neville with his work, I had half the work he does, I am an assistant for Professor McGonagall so she does most of the paperwork, but with her Headmistress work she isn't able to do it all on her own anymore.
"Of course! See you then." I nod before walking past him heading for the Owlery.
My owl, a fawn colored spotty owl named Liberty met me as soon as I got in the door of the owlery.
"Hey girl! How's my sweet baby? I've got a letter to go to the squad! Can you take it for me?" She rubs her head on my cheek before taking the letter and flying away.
I made my way back towards the office Professor McGonagall and I share, I grabbed the paperwork I needed and made my way to my rooms. I changed into something a little nicer but also still comfortable.
I made my way down to the Herbology classrooms. Neville's office sat next to greenhouse three. The thing with Neville's office is that it was basically just another greenhouse. Most offices in Hogwarts could be rather dark and damp, but Neville's is always filled with light, well other than when it rains but I love sitting in Neville's office and watching the rain. He would make us hot chocolates and we would sit on the couch just watching the sky.
As I got to the office I knocked even though he could see me coming I still preferred to knock. Neville's office was enchanted so while the inside was like a greenhouse letting in all the sunlight, you couldn't actually see in from the outside.
It didn't take long before Neville opened the door welcoming me in. In his office he has a range of his favorite magical plants. The only non-magical plant he had was a couple pots of roses we had planted together a couple weeks ago. Roses are my favorite flower, I know cliche, but they remind me of my mother. My Mother loved roses so between my Dad and I we would shower her with roses, while my Dad got her real ones I would always buy her fake ones because they lasted longer.
"So what did you need help with?" I asked as I smelt the roses.
"The usual, marking. The kids wrote a two-page essay on the properties of a mandrake." He told me as we both sit down on opposite sides of his desk.
"I'll finish my work then I'll help you with yours." We set up and got started right away.
It was the weekend so we didn't have to worry about classes we could just get stuck into it and get stuff done. We sat and worked chatting as we went for about an hour and a half before we stopped for a break.
Neville made us hot chocolates and we sat on the couch, watching the clouds and sharing stories. Though we had been in school together we never really got to know each other so there would be something we didn't know about each other.
"Y/n? Earth to Y/n? You there?" Neville asked grabbing my attention.
"Sorry, zoned out a minute there! What were you saying?" I asked looking back at him now.
(Neville's P.O.V)
My girlfriend got sick of me being away all the time and gave me an ultimatum, quit my job or break up. After thinking long and hard about my decision Luna and I caught up, it was after this meeting that I ran into Y/n. I wanted to take mind off my decision. I thought doing some work would help.
Y/n sat across from me her nose in her work, my mind however was on her. Though we hadn't been working together long we had grown very close.
When she looked up I quickly looked away.
"Neville?" I looked back up at her, a massive smile on her face.
"Y-yeah?" I ask, her beautiful brown eyes looking back at me.
"Shall we take a little break then I can help you with your work." I smile at her and nod.
"Hot chocolate?" I ask getting up and moving to where I kept my snacks.
"Would love one!" She said getting up and stretching.
Once making the hot chocolates I joined Y/n on the couch. We talked for a while getting to know each other even better. The conversation stopped for a bit before we just watched the clouds. I wanted to tell Y/n, she was my best friend here I wanted to know I made the right choice.
"Y/n, I wanted to talk to you. Luna and I broke up today. She made me chose between work and her. I like Luna but there is someone I like more, and I love my job... Y/n? Y/n? Earth to Y/n?" Y/n was off in her own world, staring at the clouds, the smile she had on her face moments ago had slipped away.
"Sorry, zoned out for a minute there. What were you saying?" Y/n asked giving me another smile, this time it didn't reach her eyes.
"Nothing! Just thinking we should probably get back to it." I got back up and made my way over to my desk where I buried my head in my paperwork.
