(3rd Person P.O.V)The night of the Yule Ball arrived in a blur of anticipation. The Great Hall had been transformed into a winter wonderland, enchanted snowflakes drifting lazily through the air as the ceiling shimmered like a frosted sky. The music of the enchanted orchestra spilled out into the corridors, and students milled about in their finest robes, laughter and excitement echoing through the castle.
Y/n stood in front of the mirror in her dormitory, smoothing the fabric of her emerald-green gown. Her long hair, usually tied back in a messy bun, was loosely curled, cascading over her shoulders. She had paired the gown with a black necklace her parents had gotten her last Christmas, her favorite rings including a silver and gold snitch and a rainbow fidget ring. Her earrings were sterling silver matching the silver heels her Papa had gone out and gotten the day before.
The nerves bubbling in her chest were foreign, and she couldn't decide if they were about the Ball itself or the boy waiting for her downstairs.
There was a knock at the door and Cho Chang poked her head in.
"Hey, Fred is waiting for you, I let him in so his sitting by the fire. Your dress is gorgeous by the way!" She told Y/n before leaving.
Y/n thanked her, adjusting her necklace just slightly before making her way down the stairs to meet Fred. As she started to descend the stairs Fred looked up from the fire looking up at her.
"Wow" He exclaimed in awe.
Y/n rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress the smile spreading across her face.
Y/n raised an eyebrow, trying to ignore the warmth creeping up her neck. "You're staring, Weasley."
"Can you blame me?" he said, recovering quickly with a grin. "You look... incredible."
She looked away, trying to play it off. "You clean up pretty well yourself."
Fred offered her his arm, his grin softening. "Shall we?"
Y/n hesitated for a moment before slipping her hand into the crook of his arm. As they made their way down the stairs and into the Great Hall. The feeling in her stomach was still there but it felt different now, more excitement than nerves.

The Ball was everything Y/n had expected: laughter, music, and students twirling around the dance floor. What she hadn't expected was how easy it was to enjoy it with Fred.
"Dance with me," Fred said suddenly, pulling her toward the center of the hall.
Y/n froze. "Fred, I'm terrible at—"
"Nonsense," he interrupted, spinning her around. "Just follow my lead."
She stumbled at first, but Fred's infectious laughter eased her nerves. Soon, they were moving together, his hand steady at her waist as he guided her across the floor.
"See? Not so bad," he said, grinning down at her.
Y/n looked up at him, her own smile breaking free. "I guess not."
The song slowed, and Fred's hand lingered on her waist, his other still holding hers. The laughter and chatter around them faded into the background, and for a moment, it was just the two of them.
"Y/n," he said softly, his usual teasing tone replaced by something deeper.
She swallowed, her heart racing. "Yes?"
"I know I'm usually the one cracking jokes, but... I need you to know I'm serious about this. About us."
Her breath caught. She searched his face, finding no trace of his usual mischief—just honesty and a vulnerability she hadn't expected.
