(This story was requested by someone, but I cannot recall who requested it. I apologize for the delay, but I am happy to share it now. The past year has been challenging for me, but I am getting back on track. For the first time in a long time, I am content with who I am and where I am in life. I won't allow anyone to control my life anymore! So, to whoever requested this story, I apologize for the delay and not remembering who asked for it.)(Y/n's P.O.V)
Fred and I have been best friends since our time at Hogwarts. Two years ago, we became a couple, but lately, he seems to spend more time with Angelina than with me. I often find them talking, and they stop talking as soon as they notice me approaching. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with this situation. So, I approach them to talk.
"Hey, Fred, Angelina. Fred, we need to talk," I say, trying to remain calm, but there's a hint of anger in my voice when I say Angelina's name. She and I have been best friends since we were sorted into Gryffindor. Now, she's betraying me.
"Can't right now, Y/n," Fred says, using my name instead of the affectionate nickname he used to call me, Babe.
"Fine, Angelina can hear this then. We're breaking up. I'm tired of being your second choice. You two are perfect for each other. Don't talk to me again." I storm off before he can say anything.
I head to Black Lake to find my friends. Sure enough, the Golden Trio is sitting by the lake.
"Oh hey, Y/n!" Hermione calls, looking up from her book.
"Hey," I say as I sit down.
"What's wrong, Y/n?" Harry asks, happy to have an excuse not to do his Herbology homework.
"It's Fred," I reply.
"What did he do this time?" Ron asks.
"Nothing, that's exactly it. I'm second to Angelina, and he even forgot it's my birthday."
"Well, happy birthday Y/n!" Ron says, not knowing what else to say about his brother's behavior.
"Y/n, how about you hang out with us to get your mind off Fred for a bit?" Hermione suggests.
"Okay, Harry, Ron, hand me those assignments," I say, sighing.
"THANK YOU!" Ron exclaims, handing them to me.
As I start reading the two assignments, I immediately notice what Ron's doing wrong.
"Ron, you realize we're studying mandrakes, not the color of Hermione's eyes, right?" I laugh as he turns red.
"Uh, what? That's the wrong one." He snatches the paper from my hand, scribbles something on another piece of parchment, and hands it to me.
"So, you never started?" I roll my eyes and get to work.
I am nearly finished with Harry's assignment when Ron points out that Fred is coming. I get up, tell the trio I have to get a book from the library, and walk away.
(Third Person P.O.V)
As Y/n walks away, Fred reaches the Golden Trio.
"Where's Y/n going? I need to talk to her," he says, trying to catch her eye as she walks away, but she doesn't look back.
"She doesn't want to talk to you," Hermione snaps.
"Can you pass a message on for me?" Fred pleads.
"Hurry up with it. We don't have all day; we have assignments to do," Hermione says, glaring at Ron.
"Okay, please tell her I'm sorry. It's not what she thinks. I can't tell her what we discussed yet, but I promise she's number one." He looks guilty as he watches Y/n enter the school.
"We'll deliver the message," Ron says, turning away from his brother.
The Golden Trio is in Y/n's Herbology class. They aren't her only friends in Herbology, but the others are elsewhere. She's never asked them where they hang out, as she always hangs out with Fred, but now she has the perfect excuse to ask.
As she enters the library, she goes to the Herbology aisle, finishes the two assignments, puts them in her bag, and heads towards Herbology. She arrives and finds her friends already there. She goes over to the Golden Trio.
"Here, Harry and Ron," she says, passing them their homework.
Y/n turns to talk to her other friends when Ron speaks.
"Fred wanted us to convey a message. He said he's sorry, and it's not what you think," Ron says as he reads his assignment.
"Of course, he's sorry, but he should've thought about that before he chose her. When you see him next, tell him the apology is unacceptable." With that, she walks over to her other friends.
(Y/n's P.O.V)
Why is the last part of what Ron said sticking with me? It's not what you think. I've heard it a million times before. It never means anything good; it always means it's exactly what you think.
"Hey, girls!" I say as I come to a stop next to my friends.
"Hey, Y/n!" they reply.
"I was wondering where you girls hang out during break? Fred and I broke up, so I need somewhere to hang," I confess.
"Oh, and you two make such a cute couple! Of course, you can hang out with us. We meet here every break." I smile as all the girls hug me.
After classes, I meet my friends back in the greenhouse. They help Professor Sprout look after the plants in their free time, which is fun. We spend the whole time joking and laughing.
A few days pass, and Fred keeps trying to talk to me. He sits next to me in the Great Hall and tries to follow me up the dormitory stairs, but they won't let him pass. When the Hogsmeade trip comes, that's when everything changes.
