(Merry Christmas Eve, my lovelies! Comment below your Favorite Christmas tradition! At Hogwarts, who doesn't love the tradition of the Yule Ball?? Other than Y/n Lupin-Black of course. I was out of ideas for stories so I used Chat GTP to get a prompt for this story.)

(Fred's P.O.V)

I had never spoken to Y/n, but I saw her in class. Y/n was the quiet type, always studying. I mean, why wouldn't she? Her Father is the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. I had spent hours staring at the back of Y/n's head in classes.

Her brown hair was always tied up in a messy bun, her head bent over the work as her quill scribbled down notes in every class.

Y/n is a Ravenclaw so outside of class I don't really see her, not even when I was trying to find her. With the Yule Ball mere weeks away, I had kept trying to catch her, but it was like I blinked, and she was gone swept away by the crowed of students in a rush to leave. Her breaks were spent in one of three places, the library, her common room or her father's office. I had seen her on the Marauder's Map, but it was like she had her own map because by the time I got there she would be on the other end of the school.

But today I hoped to get lucky I managed to steal the map away from George as I ran through hidden passageways till, I finally made it to the library. I slowed down as I entered scanning the room and there, she was sat at a table in the back bent over what I could only guess was homework.

"Hey Love, if you spend all your time in the library someone might think your a book." It was a weak attempt at a joke but I was nervous.

"Oh hi, Fred?" She greeted, I nodded confirming which twin I was. "What do you need Fred?"

"I wanted to know if you'd fancy helping George and I test some products for the shop." I grinned.

"Your 'products' usually end with someone sprouting extra limbs or turning a questionable shade of purple." She pointed out.

"Precisely why we need your expertise. You're top of the class in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Who better to test them?" I found that flattery went a long way with girls, and I needed her on board.

She narrowed her eyes at me, but she couldn't hold back the laugh that erupted out of her.

"Alright Weasley!" She said standing and gathering her things. "But if I end up with a third arm you'll be doing my homework for a week."

"Deal. But let's hope you don't-you'd look rather odd at the Yule Ball with three arms." I said standing up as well.

"You're impossible." She rolled her eyes as she pushed her chair in and walked around the table.

"And you Y/n Lupin-Black are too serious, but I'll fix that soon enough." I said wrapping an arm around her.

(Y/n's P.O.V)

After we left the Library, we returned to our common rooms. We started spending time together, testing products and talking, just talking. It wasn't till a few days later that I received an urgent Owl from Fred. I made my way to the Gryffindor Common room, waiting outside till Fred emerged dragging me up to the Astronomy Tower, I hadn't been up there much other than for classes, but I had never really taken in the view. Normally you would see hundreds of Students flook up here a day to look at the view or to be away from teachers prying eyes but due to the cold winters day Fred and I stood alone in the tower.

"What is this about Fred?" I asked shivering. "You said it was urgent and yet we are standing here in the cold freezing our arses off."

Fred leaned casually against the stone railing, the stars above him glittering like diamonds in the inky sky.

"Patients Love, you'll ruin the moment if you complain too much.

I glared at him but said nothing more. Fred glanced up at me a grin on his face, not his normal grin though this one-off was lacking the mischievous hint, instead something softer took root.

"You know." He began his voice unusually serious. "You're a hard person to crack Y/n Lupin-Black."

"Excuse me?" I asked confused.

"You're always so... guarded. Like you have a million walls up, and Merlin forbid anyone tries to climb over them." My instinct was too snap back, deflect with sarcasm but something about his sincerity stopped me instead I looked out into the horizon.

"Maybe some walls are there for  a reason." It came out barely more than a whisper.

"Maybe. But sometimes letting someone in isn't a bad thing." He said moving closer to me.

I felt my heart do a flip in my chest a feeling I hadn't felt before. Fred Weasley, the prankster, the joker, the boy who made her laugh when she wanted to scream-was he being serious?

"And you think you're the one to climb the walls?" Half teasingly, half curious.

"Well, someone has got to do it. Might as well be me." He grinned.

For a moment I didn't know what to say as the cool air nipped at my cheeks I could feel my guard slipping, just a little.

"You're insufferable." I finally said, though there was no malice in my words.

"And yet your still here." Fred laughed, the sound warm and bright against the cold night air.

"Maybe I like the company." I say turning to him my lips curling into a small smile.

"Careful love, keep talking like that and I might think you actually like me." His grin widened.

"Don't push your luck Weasley." As we continued to stand in the night breeze our banter subsided leaving us in a confutable silence, I couldn't help thinking that maybe just maybe Fred was worth letting in.
