Leah's POV
"You girls ready?" Kelly asked us as we approached the press conference.
"Mmhmm." Blair hummed as she glanced through the door of the busy room. She's taken everything rather well honestly. I know that this has been hard on her, but she's yet to let that show at all.
"You'll sit here." One of the conference organizers pointed me to my seat beside Kelly. I've enjoyed having her as a coach so far this year.
"First question for Leah. Leah, obviously between the last season and this current one there's been quite a shift in the team roster, coaching and even leadership. How are you adjusting to this?"
I'm dealing with it.
"Yeah, there are major shifts. It almost feels like a completely different club, but at the same time. Its Arsenal. We still have McCabe and Lia Walti and Lotte. All of these girls have been Arsenal at heart. But we have some new major faces coming into the team or even returning like Jill Roord. Although change is hard at times I have really enjoyed the changes that have surfaced this year."
"Kelly, what is it like to come in this year as the main coach and have a squad of this caliber? Give us an insight on your captains and how you see this season panning out."
"Leah is a player that breathes for this team only. There's not a person who would lead this team better. That being said Leah and Blair get along nicely and have equally inspired these girls so much already. Leah obviously has held captaincy for both Arsenal and England for quite some time while Blair has never held this role. Blair Laid is an amazing voice to be heard on and off the pitch as well as a great leader through actions. The two girls have both obviously started young, but are incredibly experienced and successful players. They are amazing captains."
"Blair, what is it like to come to a team that you faced such a life changing event with?" Blair looked at her hands uneasy and she held them beneath the table to hide the shaking from the reporters.
"It was the most difficult time in my life, but I recovered and I am back to the game."
I feel bad for her. I've heard that she's been through more than just that.
"Blair, why move to the WSL after being on the best team in the world? Why not stay at Barcelona with your family? Do you feel like this may be better for you to get back to form to play here since the competition for a midfield spot on that team is so much harder to obtain?"
"Is it not here? I think its important to note who we have on this team as well. As mentioned by the other reporters we have so many new players on the squad including myself. This team has the potential to be just as successful as Barcelona. Coach Smith has been amazing already and I think our first game will give a bit of insight to what we will be this season. Leah and I plan on leading a team to as much success as possible."
"Are you saying Arsenal could get a quadruple this season?" Fuck Blair, what are you doing?
"That's not what I said, but why not? Laia Codina is a World Cup winner. You have 3 of the Euros champions, you have one of my national teammates who won the Olympics. You have young talent coming in who are already so extremely talented and experienced like Lena Oberdorf, Kyra, and Vic. Barcelona, Chelsea, Lyon is full of big names, but so are we this year."
"What are the chances that you win the league?" Blair glanced over at Kelly then they exchanged small smirks.
"With the squad depth that we now have on top of an amazing coach, I don't see any other team having a chance." The reporters were absolutely stunned by her answer. So was I honestly.
