Continuing from last chapter. Most of you guys don't seem to be from America, so I'll try my best to stick to metric measurements. Where possible, I'll add imperial measurements for my fellow Americans. Sorry about that!

Hope you enjoy!

"Please answer." Ran whispered, clutching the phone to her ear. "Shinichi, it's urgent, please call me!" She urged, before hanging up the phone. She shook her head, tears in her eyes. "I can't reach him."

"We don't need that brat. I can just solve this case!" Kogoro barked.

"They asked specifically for Shinichi." Ran protested.

"That's probably because they know I'll find them!" He huffed.

Ran's phone rang. She perked up and answered the phone and put it on speaker. "Shinichi?"

"What's going on?" Conan asked. He'd stepped outside, and watched them through the window, his voice changing bowtie to his lips.

"Someone kidnapped Rin!"

"One of those kid's you're watching over?"

"Yes. The kidnapper asked for you."

Conan took a steadying breath. "How long do we have?"

"They didn't give a set time." Ran muttered.

"What exactly did they say?"

"They said she'd remain trapped, alone, until the case is solved. And that she'd die if we take too long." Sato repeated the message that she'd written down.

"I'm not sure I can get there soon enough." He lied.

"What do you mean?" Ran protested.

"They said she'd die, not that they'd kill her, and they emphasized 'alone'. That means there's some sort of timer placed on her. Worst case, that means there's some environmental factor where she's being held, best case, it's an organic factor." He stated calmly.

"Organic?" Ran asked hesitantly.

"He means how long it takes to die of thirst." Sato muttered

Ran paled at her words. "How is that the best case?"

"That would mean we have two days. However, we need to operate under the assumption we have less time than that."

"Why didn't they just tell us a set time?" Dr. Agasa mused.

"If I had to guess, they want to keep a sense of urgency. It keeps them in control of the relationship."

"Is there anything we can do?" Ran whispered.

"I need you to send me all the details of the ransom, and anything else related to the case." He stated calmly. I'll do my best to help from here."

"Fuck!" You hissed, as the metal of the door cut into your palm again. You'd ripped the tape off your mouth as soon as the creep had left. You could still taste his blood in your mouth, and something about that made you feel a little better. At least nobody could say you didn't put up a fight. Based on the smell, and the temperature, you figured you were underground, in a basement or storm shelter of some sort. However, that reality did nothing for you. You were still trapped.

You took a calming breath. Focus (Y/N) take stock. You carefully felt your pockets to see what you had to work with. You had the detective boy's badge, a stick of gum, your grapple belt, and the rope that bound you. It wasn't much, but you could make it work. You'd given up getting a shard of metal from the door, and now focused your energy towards cutting the rope that bound your hands. You renewed your effort, dragging the edge of the rope against the jagged metal door. You'd picked up on the killer's words pretty quickly. He was leaving you to die. How that death would come, you didn't want to know. Your biggest hope was that Conan had seen your message.
