Hello dear readers! I have an important question! I'm new to the whole online writing, so I hope you guys can give me some insight.

What is usual for update frequency among other writers? I feel like I need to update daily or every other day, but that's a lot of work. So how often do most writers update their stories? Weekly? Bi-weekly?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Insomnia sucks. The only thing that could make it any worse is night terrors. For you lucky few who don't experience night terrors or insomnia, you don't know how lucky you are. Insomnia makes falling asleep a pain in the back end, and night terrors constantly wake you up in absolute...well, terror. It is a vicious cycle.

That's what life was like for (Y/N). Conan hated to watch her go through it. She shared a room with Ran, but every night she would go downstairs to the Detective Agency, and lay on the couch. She did it after she thought everyone was asleep, but Conan knew. She was always up and about before anyone else had even woken up, and she never let anyone know she slept on the couch. For the longest time, Conan couldn't figure out why she constantly did it, until that night.

----------------------------------------

After he'd helped her up the stairs after school, they talked. It was trivial stuff, so it didn't surprise him when she fell asleep. When Ran came home, she carried her up to bed, and went to sleep. Kogoro stumbled in a little later, and Conan followed him to bed.

Around midnight is when it happened. He woke up to get some water, and decided to check on the girl. He headed down the stairs and entered the small office. She was asleep on the far couch, facing the door. She held something close to her chest, but he couldn't make it out. He sat on the couch opposite her, and watched her small chest rise and fall rhythmically. After some time passed, she whispered something in her sleep. Curious, he leaned closer. "Judo..." She mumbled, her face comfortably serene. She looks so peaceful. Conan thought to himself. He blushed, and quickly looked away. He wasn't trying to be creepy or anything. It just surprised him how peaceful she could look, but that quickly changed.

In an instant her serene expression twisted, and was replaced by one of pure terror. She began to whimper, then thrash, and finally, scream. Conan rushed to her side, and touched her shoulder, trying his best to wake her from whatever terrible dream had consumed her. He realized, too late, his mistake.

(Y/N) shot awake, eyes wild. Before Conan could react, the object she had been holding was pulled out, and pointed at his eye. Conan stared, dumbfounded, at the small dagger that hovered less than an inch from his left eye. A split second later, (Y/N) seemed to come to her senses, and she put the knife away hurriedly.

"I-I'm sorry, Judo. You startled me." She muttered the apology, all signs of sleep gone in an instant.

"Don't worry about it. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." She whispered, shoving the dagger into the pocket of her pajamas.

"Why don't I believe you?" Conan smiled softly.

"I just got a little scared."

"A little? Is that why you always sleep down here?"

"I figured I wouldn't be able to hide it for long."

"Do you want to talk about whatever it was that scared you so much?"

She shook her head weakly. "I don't want to talk about it in the dark."

"Are you scared of the dark?" Conan asked, the thought bizarre.

----------------------------------------------------

"It's not that. It's just that the dark makes the fear worse. Like any second the fears you envision could step from those shadows." You mumbled, both embarrassed, and tense from the dream. You stared down at your lap, expecting the boy to laugh or snort. After several seconds, a pair of warm arms wrapped around you, and pulled you close to an equally warm body. Your eyes widened at the boy's unexpected action.

"I'm not going to let anything hurt you. After all, you're important to me." He smiled, his eyes focused on the moon outside the window. You were glad he was looking away, cause at that moment a blush spread across your cheeks. You smiled happily to yourself, and leaned into the boy's hug. Before long, his steady heartbeat, soft breathing, and warmth lulled you to sleep. For the first time in years, you fell asleep without hours of struggling, and without a single night terror. Instead, you dreamed about the two friends who had saved you, and the boy who erased fear.

----------------------------------------

Note to self, Judo is a little sissy when it comes to the cold. You thought to yourself, as the young boy sniffled.

The two of you had fallen asleep on the couch. The heater was always off at night, so it stayed pretty chilly in there. Because of that, Conan woke up with a cold.

Ran checked his forehead and shook her head. "You have a fever. That's what happens when you fall asleep in the cold." Ran chastised.

What a pansy. You thought to yourself.

"That's not nice, Rin."

You were slightly taken aback. Can Ran read minds?

Conan noticed your look of confusion, and sighed. "You said that out loud genius, and how come you aren't sick?! You were just as exposed as I was!"

"Unlike you, I am highly disciplined. I was lucky if I found shelter when I was on the street. I no longer feel the cold." You stuck your tongue out at him mockingly.

"Rin, that's nothing to brag about. Even if you can handle the elements better, you shouldn't press your luck." Ran stated, managing to turn it into a lecture. "You still aren't fully healed. You need to take better care of yourself, and stop taking so many risks."

Conan looked past Ran, and gave you an I-told-you-so look. Oh, I want to smack that grin off his face sooo badly~

You weren't going to tell Conan, but you were sick too. You weren't sniffling or coughing, but you could tell you had a fever. Your mind was unfocused, and the room felt colder than it actually was. He's still a pansy. After all, it took me a week of sleeping in the cold to get sick. It only took him a few hours. Besides, my immune system is all wonky cause of the meds that doctors have me on. You validated yourself.

"If you wait a little while, I'll get you some medicine from the store." Ran told Conan, who nodded pitifully. Ran was about to open the door, when it flew open on its own. "Oh, I'm sorry, do you need something?" Ran asked. You're the one that almost got hit in the face by a door, so he should apologize!

"So, this is the Mouri Detective Agency." The figure at the door said. He wore a bluish green billed baseball hat, with a SAX logo on a cream background, whatever that stood for. He had on a green jacket over a black t-shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and a blue bag that read Victory over his shoulder.

Who could this mysterious character be? I'm sure you all know! Keep in mind, this won't go like it does in the show. Instead I'm gonna wing it! 😁😁
