This song was stuck in my head during the climax of this chapter. Idk why, but here we are XD

----------------------------------------

Your hands were cramping from gripping the bolt, but you couldn't stop. You weren't sure how long it'd been since you'd been stuck down here, but you could taste your freedom. The bolt wore into the cement, whittling it away bit by bit. The metal caught, and the bolt slipped from your fatigued hands. You wrapped your hands around the vent, braced your feet against the wall, and pulled with all your strength. Nothing happened, and you felt your stomach sink. "Dammit!" You roared, putting all your anger into your arms. There was a crack, and the bolt ripped from the wall. You crashed to the ground, and laid back for a moment, breathing heavy. "Fina-fucking-lly." You groaned. Your body creaked in protest, as you pushed yourself back to your feet. You rotated the grate and stared into the open vent. "No point sitting here thinking about it." You crawled into the vent and began moving.

"Sora Niwa." Inspector Meguire mumbled. "You're sure this is him, Kudo?"

Kid nodded. "I'm positive."

"Put out an APB on him." Meguire instructed Sato, before turning back to them. "Knowing who he is, doesn't tell us where Rin is." He sighed.

"We know she's underground, and near a train." Conan muttered.

"We'll check all property that Niwa owns. Maybe we'll get lucky." He nodded. "What about his ransom?"

Conan clenched his teeth, as Kid answered. "It really was a suicide." He shook his head. "It's an impossible request."

Meguire let out a heavy sigh. "Then our only hope is to find where he's got her."

----------------------------------

You winced as you shimmied your way up the vent. "You think this is gonna stop me." You panted, as you pushed yourself up a few more inches. "I'm a fucking..." You pushed yourself up again. "...master thief." You growled. Another push. "I live..." Another push. "...in vents." You reached a split in the vent and pulled yourself into it. Your legs shook. You looked down at the ten-foot drop below you, a grin spreading across your face. "Still got it." You puffed, doing your best to calm your breathing.

You began to crawl down the new pathway. If my estimation is right, I should be somewhere between a first and second floor. You thought, as you crawled. You had a moment of panic as you moved. If the vents were the same as what you saw in the basement, you'd be done for. Fortunately, your fears were in vain. You reached the first vent and stared through the slits. When you were confident the coast was clear, you kicked the grate off the vent, and slid out. The vent was near the ground, meaning you were most likely on the second floor. "Time to get the hell out of here."

You ran down the hallway. You were in what looked to be an abandoned office building. It'd been empty for a while, based on the sheer amount of mold and damage you saw as you moved. You found the stairwell and crept through the door. You glanced up the stairs, before turning your gaze down. Everything was silent. You rushed down the flight of stairs to the first floor and pushed open the door. The room you stepped into seemed to be a foyer of some sort, the remains of the reception desk flipped and broken in half, and a dozen doors along the walls.

You lowered yourself into a crouch and stepped out into the room. This kind of place was your worst nightmare. There was no cover from the stairwell to the front doors. You'd be exposed, and, without your gear, vulnerable. You took a shaky step out into the foyer. The door to the stairwell swung shut behind you with a dull thud. You winced at the noise and froze, listening for sounds of movement.
