A/N: So, this is the first time that Makoto has officially shown up in this story, and can I just say, that man is precious. Okay, I'm done.

"Fifty-three people are staying here?" Yamamura gasped.
"How many checked in this morning?" Conan piped in. "Remember? Mr. Hozumi said the fan sent him an email saying he checked into the inn this morning." He looked up at Ran.
"Oh, yeah." Ran nodded.
The innkeeper flipped through the guest book. "The guests that checked in this morning... these three."
"Could you call them down? We need to talk." Yamamura stated.
The innkeeper nodded and hurried off. Conan glanced towards Rin. She was munching happily on the crushed-up cookies. His chest tightened. No, focus. He chastised himself, forcing himself to look away.
It wasn't long before the innkeeper returned, three men right behind him. A foreigner, an old man, and thuggish looking young man.
"Oh, uh... I just wanted to ask you what you were all doing around 5 this afternoon." Yamamura asked nervously.
"I was sleepin' in my room." The thug, Isamu Okuma, grumbled.
"I was taking a bath" The old man, Tatsuzo Watanuki, muttered.
"I am taking walk!" The foreigner, Hans Buckley, stated in broken Japanese.
"Can anyone prove that?" Yamamura continued.
"Course not."
"I was alone in my room..."
"I see no one."
"It was probably the thug with the nose piercing." Sonoko whispered to Ran. "He probably asked Mr. Hozumi to write his name in katakana because he's too stupid to read kanji."
Rin looked up at her with a dumbfounded expression.
"What about the old man?" Ran mused. "Maybe he asked Mr. Hozumi to use katakana because he couldn't make out the kanji with his weak eyes."
"Maybe it's the foreign guy!" Yamamura added. "I bet there are foreigners who can't read kanji, but they can make out katakana and hiragana."
"Well, that narrows it down." Rin scoffed.
"Do any of you know about a show called Winter Maple Leaf?" Yamamura asked.
"What the hell is that?"
"I've never heard of it..."
"No maple leaves in winter."
"Aha! Playing dumb, are you?" Yamamura asserted. He glanced over at the clock. "It's no use! An avid fan will give away his love for the series when he sees the opening sequence." He reached into his inner coat pocket and pulled out a portable TV. He held it out to the men, a confident expression on his face.
"At last, we bring you the European karate championship!!"
"Huh? It got preempted!"
"You want us to watch karate?" Okuma spat.
"Oh, no..."
"Keep an eye on the rising star of this tournament, Japan's Prince of Kicks... Makoto Kyogoku!!"
Without warning, Sonoko snatched the device from the Detective. She stared at the device wide eyed.
"An eighteen-year-old newcomer who hasn't lost one of his last 400 matches. They're calling him the Lone Wolf of Karate!!"
