You glared down at the notebook in front of you. What the hell is he doing here? What, is he going to lecture me some more? You thought to yourself.
"Miss Akahoshi, are you alright?" The teacher paused his lecture, probably having noticed your tensed expression.
You put on a tired smile. "Not really, is it okay if I go to the nurse's office?"
"I don't think the nurse is here today, but if you need to rest for a bit before lunch, go ahead."
You nodded, before standing and grabbing your things. Shinichi's eyes were fixed on you, as you hurried out of the classroom. You made straight for the nurse's office, entered, and slammed the door shut behind you. "That... insufferable... annoying... little... gah!" You slumped down onto one of the two cots placed in the nurse's office. "I can't get ten minutes of peace with him around!" You growled into the empty office. You flopped back to rest on the cot, and went to cover your face with your hands. You froze, your eyes fixated on the bandages wrapped around your palms. You couldn't help but think of the night before. The way he'd charged into danger to save you, the way he'd carried you out of there when you could no longer move, the way he'd stood between you and a killer and didn't flinch. You sat there in silence, as the memories returned. However, for some reason, they weren't quite as devoid of light as you'd thought.
The bell rang, signaling the start of lunch. You let out an exasperated sigh. "Psh... fine. I'll let him off the hook." You grumbled, as a smirk pulled up the corner of your lips.

"Oh, (Y/N), there you are. How are you feeling?" Ran asked, genuine worry in her eyes.
"I'm fine now, just got a little dizzy is all." You replied, flashing your most convincing smile.
"Which is why you should have rested instead of coming to school." Shinichi stated, as he sauntered up to you.
"Last time I checked I'm an adult. I don't need permission."
"I didn't know adults snuck out when nobody was watching." Shinichi retorted.
"Well I wouldn't have to sneak out if you weren't such a control freak." You quipped.
"Um... am I missing something here?" Sonoko interrupted. "Since when have you and Kudo been close?"
Shinichi looked to you with a smirk as though eager to hear what new lie you would sow. "Well, since all of my relatives have passed away, I needed somewhere to stay while I was getting treatment. Fortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Kudo were nice enough to let me stay at their place. Because of that, I've run into Shinichi a few times." You stated, doing your best to not technically lie.
"Oh, so it's not just a coincidence that both of you are back at the same time." Sonoko said, her tone holding several insinuations.
"She's reckless, so my parents asked if I could come to keep an eye on her for a bit." Shinichi explained.
"Well, you really suck at your job." Sonoko snickered. "You didn't save the damsel in distress from the ruffians." She called dramatically, as she grabbed your bandaged hands.
Shinichi's confident and cocky expression wavered, and a deep pain surfaced behind his eyes.
Your eyes widened. He doesn't think...
"Well, why don't we go get some food. Maybe eating will help you get a little energy back." Ran suggested.
"Y-yeah... good idea." You mumbled.
-----------------------------
The final bell rang, signaling the end of the tiresome school day. As soon as the bell tolled, you grabbed your stuff, and hurried to your locker. I'm such an idiot! You silently chastised yourself. Why do I always cause problems for the people around me?! You ripped the shoes off, and slid on your sneakers without untying them. What the hell is wrong with me? I keep making things worse... You slammed your locker closed, and hurried towards the door.
