Just so you guys know, I know next to nothing about heart failure. I'm not sure if any of this is biologically accurate. I'm simply going based off of google, and past things I've heard about it. I just wanted to get that out. I am no doctor, I'm simply a girl with way too much free time on her hands!

-----------------------------------------------------

Where are you? Conan thought as he frantically searched for the missing girl. He was distraught. The fear that she'd been kidnapped, darkened the edges of his mind.

"Rin!" He screamed into the dark street. Haibara and Dr. Agasa were also searching, but Conan wasn't paying any attention to their actions. They searched along the route that she always took to and from the professor's house, but they found nothing. Halfway along the route, they ran into Ran and Kogoro, who were searching just as adamantly.

"Have you found anything?" Ran asked worriedly.

"No. Where could she have gone?" Dr. Agasa asked no one in particular.

"Maybe she ran away." Haibara replied in her quiet tone.

"This isn't time for jokes." Conan grumbled at the girl.

"It isn't a joke. She seemed pretty upset when she left." Haibara stated. She watched Conan with curiosity.

Conan's eyes widened, and he ran off to keep searching. Where did you go? I didn't mean it, any of it! I'm sorry, please, I'm begging you, be safe. He mentally screamed as he broadened his search. The others joined in once again, and they scoured the streets.

After half an hour of searching, they found her.

"She's over here!" Came Kogoro's shout. Conan sprinted towards the sound of his voice, desperate to get to her.

He got there shortly after Haibara and Ran. She was unconscious. She'd collapsed in the back alley. Kogoro took off his coat, and covered the girl, before gently lifting her up off the cold ground. Keeping her in his arms, he knelt so Ran could check on her.

"She's freezing, and her heartbeat is weak." Ran whispered, her voice panicked.

"We need to get her to the hospital." Kogoro replied. "Ran, call an ambulance. It'll be faster if we meet them out at the main road." Kogoro instructed. Ran nodded, and ran off to find a payphone. Kogoro turned to Dr. Agasa. "Why don't you take them home." He stated.

"I want to go too!" Conan shouted.

"This isn't a game!" Kogoro screamed, his face turning red. "We don't have time to keep an eye on you brats, so go home!" Kogoro walked off towards the main road, keeping the girl bundled in the coat.

Conan watched the man walk away, frozen in stunned silence. Why was she all the way out here? Why didn't she head home? Why wouldn't she wake up? The thoughts spun through Conan's head.

"Like I said before, maybe she was trying to run away." Haibara muttered, her eyes fixated on Conan.

Just shut up! Conan wanted to scream, but part of him agreed with her.

"If we hurry, we should be able to make it to the hospital around the same time they do." Dr. Agasa stated. "I'll drive you there, but we have to hurry."

Conan nodded, and ran towards the professor's house.

----------------------------------------------------

Conan anxiously tapped his foot. They'd somehow arrived before the ambulance, and were now waiting in the uncomfortable hospital chairs.

Within minutes, the Emergency Room doors were thrown open, and a gurney rushed through the doors. "Hang in there, Rin." Ran called as she ran to keep pace with the gurney. The paramedics rushed past Conan and the others, the small pale girl in the middle of the massive cushion. Conan stood to follow, but they rushed her into a restricted area. He stared at the swinging doors, not sure how to feel. He was furious at himself for upsetting her, worried about her health, scared that it was his fault, and terrified that she wouldn't be okay.

Ran sulkily walked over to him, and dropped into one of the chairs. After several minutes, a nurse came out to talk to them. "How is she?" Ran asked worriedly.

"Honestly, not good." The nurse stated bluntly. "But it could be worse. If you hadn't brought her in when you did, she wouldn't have a chance of survival." The nurse continued. "Her heart was on its last leg. If you remember, we told you that a few days ago. Upon her insistence we didn't immediately hospitalize her, and as we expected her condition slowly worsened."

"What would have happened to her today, leading up to this?" Haibara asked the nurse in her childish voice. What are you playing at? Conan eyed the girl suspiciously.

"She would have been light headed. She would have had difficulty focusing. Some patients describe it as sleep walking while being fully aware. When she hit that point, any trauma could have set her off. With the introduction of an emotional, mental, or physical trauma she would have collapsed within minutes." The nurse explained.

Conan felt as though someone was suffocating him. His gaze fell to the tiled floor, startled by the nurse's words. Haibara thanked the nurse, and sat down.

"So, what will happen now?" He asked, fearful of the possible answer.

"Fortunately, the donor heart we were waiting for arrived an hour ago. She's being taken into surgery now. I have to warn you though. With her age, medical history, and the circumstances, the chances of everything going smoothly are less than 40%." The nurse replied, his face grim. "It's a risky procedure, especially when you're young."

"Thank you for telling us." Dr. Agasa said, when no one else would respond. The nurse nodded, and left.

Please. Please, be strong! You have to hang in there. Conan thought as he watched the nurse walk away.
