Hello everyone!!! Surprise, I'm still alive! I'm here with yet another update!
I'm sure most of you know this song, but I feel like it fits the start of this chapter very well. AKA we have a very gushy opening. You're welcome!
--------------------------------------------
After Judo had patched you up, you called Ran using Dr. Agasa's voice. You told her you (Rin) would be spending the night, and would meet her at Shinichi's house the next morning. You actually ended up staying with Judo that night. He showed you to a luxurious guest room, but, of course, you ended up trying to sleep in one of the armchairs in the library (A/N:is it a library or a study... you know, the room where Ran first meets Conan? It's been bothering me for a while now and idk why!!). You quietly closed the doors, and curled up on the same chair you had previously occupied.
You couldn't sleep, no matter how hard you tried. Your body was humming with nervous energy, as though you'd been given a shot of adrenaline. You felt safe in the library. The only windows in the room were high up on the far wall, so you felt a little more secure. You grabbed a nearby book, and did your best to distract yourself from the fear. You read through several old case files that Judo's father had collected over the years. You didn't notice your eyes growing heavy, nor the book of files slipping from your hands. You fell asleep without a second thought.
--------------------------------
Shinichi woke up in the middle of the night. He groggily got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to relieve himself. On his way back to his room, he noticed a lamp on in the library. He quietly pushed open the door, and noticed (Y/N) curled up on an armchair. One of his father's books hung loosely from her hand, and she whimpered softly in her sleep. She seemed to be in a much deeper sleep than normal. While she was whimpering softly in her sleep, her body wasn't wracked by its normal twitches and shivers.
He smiled to himself, it was moments like these that he realized just how much he cared about her. He'd never be capable of admitting it out loud, but here, alone in the darkness, he realized that he was falling for the snarky girl that always got under his skin. He quietly took the dangling book, and placed it back on the shelf where it belonged. He then gently picked up the small girl, and carried her back up to the guest room. He pulled back the blankets, and tucked her in. He was about to leave, when the whimpers turned into muffled sobs, her dreams turning more dark and twisted.
It broke his heart to hear her like this. She was normally so strong, and defiant. She never showed her tears to anyone, but, when sleep consumed her, her fragile heart revealed itself. All the fear, sadness, and pain surfacing in sobs and tremors. He couldn't bring himself to leave her alone like that. For years she'd been forced to handle all her pain and fear alone, but he wasn't going to let that happen anymore. His body moved despite the protests from his mind. He climbed onto the other side of the bed, and laid on top of the blankets. He wrapped his arms around her, and curled his body around her small frame.
At first he was worried she would wake up in another panic, but slowly her body relaxed, and her head snuggled against his chest. The sobs returned to soft whimpers, and finally she fell silent. He'd never seen her look so peaceful before. The anxious lines on her face vanished, the tension in her shoulders faded, and the fear in her breathing subsided.
Pink tinted his cheeks, as he realized how beautiful she looked when she was relaxed. Sure, she was beautiful all the time, but when she was relaxed like this it reminded him just how precious and innocent she really was. It wasn't something he saw on a regular basis. She normally tried to come across as crass and rude, but this (y/n) was peaceful and innocent like an angel. Had she never been subjected to the torment she'd had to endure all these years, had she grown up like a regular girl, she would have been the most sought after girl in school and the envy of her peers. But, because of her circumstances, she tried to hide her true beauty (both inside and out) behind a mask.
