"(Y/N)!!" Conan jerked awake, her name the first thing on his lips. His heart beat painfully against his chest, and sweat dripped down his brow. He quickly got up from the couch, wincing from the movement, and hobbled to the spare bedroom. He quieted his panting, before pushing open the door. The second his eyes landed on her, relief washed over him. She's okay. She's safe. The fatigue returned to his aching form, as soon as the panic subsided.

She let out a whimper, and seemed to recoil from something in her sleep. It was only then that he noticed the tension in her body, and the fear in her expression. His eyebrows knit in worry. He silently crossed the room, and sat on the edge of the bed. Tears trailed down her cheeks, even in the folds of sleep. Conan wiped a tear from her cheek, then gently stroked her hair. She calmed momentarily, before the terror again tore into her unconscious mind. She grabbed the closest thing, and pulled it to her like a scared child with a stuffed toy. However, she was no child, and Conan was no stuffed animal.

Conan let out a pained groan, as her arm tightened around his torso. Her breathing subsided, as the comfort of holding something soothed her fear, but her hold did not loosen. Conan froze. If he struggled, he could wake her, or worse, hurt her. However sitting like this wasn't much of an option either. Her chest rose and fell against his back, and her warm breath brushed the top of his head. Conan's face turned as red as a tomato. This is bad...

Conan sat there, unable to move, for hours. Several times he started to doze off, but his mind was kind enough to remind him where he was, which made him instantly alert. After what seemed like an eternity, she started to roll over, and her grip loosened. Conan took the opportunity to slip out of her arms. His face was still hot, as he quietly left the room. Too his surprise, he wasn't the first one awake.

Haibara looked up at him from her cup of coffee, a reproving look in her analytical eyes.

Give me a break...

"Good morning! Oh, Shinichi, you're up awfully early." Dr. Agasa noted, as he shuffled out of his bedroom.

"Yeah, I couldn't sleep last night." Conan sighed.

"Pervert." Haibara muttered, as she typed away on her laptop.

"I told you, it's not like that!" Conan whined in protest.

"Not like what?"

Conan's face turned beat red, as (Y/N) pulled the guest bedroom door open. "N-Nothing..." Conan replied in a taunt voice. She was still in her slightly bloody clothes from the night before. She'd stayed wrapped in the blanket, and it half dragged behind her, as she drifted towards the sofa.

"Oh, good morning, (Y/N)!" Dr. Agasa greeted. "How did you sleep?"

"Like shit for the most part, but it was... surprisingly... better than I expected." She mumbled.

"You should probably rest today, but what do you want to do?" Dr. Agasa asked, as he headed to the kitchen.

"I actually was considering going to school." (Y/N) replied hesitantly.

Conan was taken aback by her words. "What? Why would you even chance that?!"

Her expression soured. "I wouldn't expect you to understand. After all, everyone else is supposed to be extra careful, but not you." She grumbled, before sagging onto the opposite sofa.

"Wha-...It-..." Conan let out an exasperated sigh. "I do understand, I'm just... worried about you... going to school... alone."

"I'm a big girl, or did you already forget that I've been doing this since long before you were in the picture."
