"How far would you go to save a life?" You whispered.
You, Heiji, and Conan were examining the evidence that Mcguire had brought over. "What brings this up?" Conan asked.
"Well, we constantly see how far a murderer will go to kill, so shouldn't we reply in kind. Shouldn't we be willing to give everything to protect the victims."
"In theory, that's how it should work, but unfortunately life isn't so cut and dry." Heiji replied. "How you react in those situations, and what you think you would do are two completely different things."
You nodded, and returned to examining the evidence. You sighed in frustration. "I need to go to the scene to see all this first hand."
"Your right. This is getting us nowhere." Heiji agreed. He turned to Melinda who was sipping tea on the sofa with Ran. "Has the scene been changed any?"
"No, I left everything where it was." She replied.
"We need to go there. These photos aren't good enough.
"O-of course!" Melinda stuttered.
Kogoro called two cabs while Ran once again carried your wheelchair down the stairs. When the cabs pulled up, Ran helped you into the first one, and slid in beside you. Conan headed towards the same cab, but Melinda took the front seat and Heiji slid in on your other side. He looked flustered, and you couldn't help but smile. He stormed off to the other cab, muttering under his breath. He's so adorable when he gets flustered. You chuckled to yourself.
"I would have thought you'd have wanted to ride with the great Mouri Kogoro." You yawned boredly.
"Kogoro's not that interesting." Heiji stated.
"What, are you interested in Ran?" You snickered.
"Not really. She's got impressive karate skills, but that's not what's piqued my interest."
"So, what did? Kudo isn't here, so what could interest such a famous detective?"
"A little kid that's smarter than Kudo."
"Conan is quite smart, but he's not smarter than Kudo." You smiled. Literally. He can't be smarter than himself. =>
"Don't play that ignorant act. I'm not stupid."
"Oh? Could have fooled me."
"Rin, don't be rude!" Ran chastised.
"Sorry, Ran, I'm still no good at talking to people." You apologized in your kiddish voice. "Sorry, Spiky Head." You gave Heiji a crooked smile.
"Tell me, how'd you end up living with Kogoro?" Heiji inquired.
"Several unfortunate circumstances lined up just right, and I stumbled into Ran. She convinced Kogoro to take me in."
"What about your family?"
You looked down at your lap. You still had a hard time talking about them. You couldn't bring yourself to say those cold words once again, those final words. "They don't mind." You whispered.
Heiji didn't ask any more questions. Maybe he could tell he touched a sensitive topic, or maybe he had asked all his questions. Whatever the reason, the drive went by in silence.

"His apartment number is 104." Melinda said when everyone had gathered outside the fancy apartment complex.
"Yes! No stairs!" You cheered. You could actually move around on your own! You wheeled yourself eagerly towards the apartment, and rolled back and forth anxiously outside the door.
