"It's a reminder...that I'll never be free."

Those words burrowed into Conan's mind, and tore into him with savage claws. Is that really how she feels? He pondered, as he watched the girl hobbling around on a pair of crutches.

They were staying at Dr. Agasa's, so as not to worry Ran. Rin had refused to go to the hospital.

"I don't want to make it any easier for all my admirers to find me." She'd insisted.

Despite that, they were both healing remarkably well. Haibara had insisted on monitoring her at all times. She was still worried about Rin's heart.

"I've told you, I'm perfectly fine!" Rin grumbled as she hobbled away from the other girl.

"We need to make sure. Your heart stopped, and we can't ignore that. I need to make sure there isn't any long term damage." Haibara sighed, as she hobbled after Rin. "Since you refuse to go to the hospital you'll have to settle for me."

"Go away!" Rin whined.

"Will you stop running away from me." Haibara grumbled.

"If I could run we wouldn't be having this conversation." Rin mumbled the reply, as she used the sofa as a barricade between them.

"Just let her check on you." Conan insisted.

"No! I am perfectly fine!" Rin barked.

"You said that when your heart started failing." Conan pointed out.

"Shut it, Judo!" She grumbled. "I have no reason to indulge her."

"Come on, you can't keep playing the tough kid. You need to take better care of yourself." Conan sighed.

"Leave me alone, or I'll go stay with the gaudy thief." She stated.

"Y-You wouldn't!"

"Try me."

Conan hesitated, trying to read her face. Her eyes were daring him to test her patience. She really would visit that damn thief. Conan thought to himself with an angry growl. "Fine." He finally ceded. "Haibara, just leave her alone for now." He grumbled to the other girl.

Haibara sighed, and held up her hands in defeat. She walked away, and headed to the computer. She'd been at the computer a lot lately. The disk she'd downloaded the drug's data on was a bust, the data had been corrupted. That didn't stop her though. She was more determined than ever.

Rin hobbled over to the sofa, and dropped onto the cushions. She grabbed the remote, and started flipping through the channels. Conan walked over to her, and sat down beside her. "What's wrong?" He whispered hesitantly.

"Nothing." Came her curt reply.

"It's not nothing. You seem more on edge then normal." He probed.

"I said it's nothing, just leave me be."

Conan sighed in defeat. "Alright, but if you want to talk I'm right here." He got to his feet, and went in the kitchen for a glass of water.

----------------------------------------

You were getting tired of Judo constantly handling you with kid gloves. You weren't a child who needed consoling, nor were you so fragile as to need him to go out of his way for you. You angrily flipped through the channels until you reached your preferred news station. You couldn't help but smile at what came up. Kaitou Kid had delivered a notice for the Aphrodite Star; a rather large pink diamond owned by Jirokichi Suzuki.

Kid loves messing with that old man. You thought to yourself with a chuckle. This could work. You mused. "Oi, Judo, come look at this!" You called to the annoying detective.
