Talk about beating a dead horse. You thought to yourself with an exasperated sigh. Conan had started lecturing you the next morning. You were trying to get ready for school, but he felt the need to lecture you for a good half hour. Of course, you'd stopped paying attention after two minutes. It takes skills to watch someone, and not hear a word they're saying.

"Are you done yet?" You moan, actually eager to get to school.

"Do you feel any remorse yet?" Conan snapped.

"Nope~" You replied in a sing-song voice.

Conan sighed in defeat. "I give up. I don't know why I keep trying to get you to see things my way. You're too obstinate."

"Why, thank you."

"That wasn't directed as a compliment." Conan expostulated.

"He won't blow our cover. Besides, he has the right to know I'm still alive."

"You didn't have to tell him."

"So, what? Should I have called him? Hey, Kid, I'm still alive. I can't tell you where I am or anything about what's going on. Gotta go now, bye! Sure, that seems logical. Just ask Ran how well that works." You mocked. "Besides, Kid's smart. He would've figured it out on his own in no time."

"That doesn't excuse it!" Conan hissed as you entered your classroom.

"Yeah, yeah, I hear you Judo." You muttered.

"I don't think you do." He sighed. He dropped into his seat, and pulled out his notebook.

"What was that?" You feigned confusion. Conan glared at you to which you snickered. "I couldn't resist." You chuckled as you pulled out the newspaper from your bag.

"Again, with the newspaper! What did we talk about?"

"We didn't talk about anything. I do, however, recall a certain little brat nagging at me about it."

"You're in first grade! You shouldn't be reading the newspaper. Will you stop it?!"

"Make me Mr. Detective." You sneered at him. He glared at you, but dropped the subject.

Class went by in its usual blur. You didn't really pay attention to anything, you scribbled invention designs, and case details in your notebook instead of the materials. Half an hour before the end of class, things took an unexpected turn.

The receptionist interrupted class. "I'm sorry to barge in, but there's someone to pick you up Rin."

"Just Rin?" Conan asked. He looked just as confused as you felt. Ran, Kogoro, or the Professor would be there for both Conan and you.

"Yes." The receptionist nodded.

"Who is it?" You asked, not moving to gather your belongings.

"Your father." The receptionist smiled. "He said he just got back from his trip overseas! Isn't that great!"

Conan looked over at Rin. Her face was ghostly pale. Whoever it was knew the story Ran had used to get her into school. "Can I walk with her to the office?" Conan asked the teacher, his voice edged with worry.
