"Heiji and Kazuha are late." Conan said with a yawn.
"Yeah, they should have been here an hour ago." Ran muttered.
"So call them." Kogoro grumbled.
"I've tried, but their phones seem to be off." Ran replied.
"Maybe they forgot and overslept." Kogoro shrugged.
"But Heiji's mom said they got on the 8a.m. flight, since they had somewhere they needed to stop first." Ran stated. "Kazuha's father wanted them to visit a friend of his, Kusukawa, who works at a Private Detective Agency in Tokyo."
"Wait, that guy from the Haido Detective Agency?" Kogoro seemed surprised to recognize the name. "He's a big gambler, even got discharged because it got out of hand."
"But what business did they have with a guy like that?" You asked.
"He wrote Kazuha's father, and told him he had something important to talk to him about, but nobody's heard from him since." Ran explained.
"They might have lost track of time, let's give them a call." Kogoro decided, picking up the phone.
You leaned over to Conan, and nudged him. "Oi, Judo, what do you think about all of this?"
"What do you mean?" The bespectacled boy inquired.
"Oh, come on. Sure, Heiji is the type to lose track of time, but Kazuha isn't the type to let him get too off track. Even if Heiji got off track, surely Kazuha would have called to tell us they'd be late." You whispered to the boy.
Conan chuckled. "I wouldn't be surprised if Heiji got caught up talking to him. He's done it before, and Kazuha could be just as distracted. It happens, so I doubt there's any reason to be worried."
You groaned, and flopped back on the sofa cushion. Something isn't sitting well with me about this... Sure, Heiji gets distracted easily, but that's always because of a case... Kazuha would have called unless she couldn't or Heiji didn't want us getting involved. In either situation, that just makes me more worried. If it's the case where Kazuha hasn't called because of Heiji, that makes me think the case is difficult enough that he feels challenged. If the case is that she CAN'T call, that worries me even more...
"Earth to Rin!" Conan shouted.
You shook your head, and returned your attention to the boy. "What?!" You grumbled.
"We're going to go visit this Kusukawa guy. Kogoro got his address from his work. Are you coming or not?"
"Of course!"

When you arrived at the apartment, Kogoro knocked on the door. "Come on." Kogoro grumbled.
"Looks like he left a note." You directed the oblivious detectives attention to the note taped to the door. You glanced down, studying the muddy footprints that crisscrossed the wooden balcony with mild interest.
Ran leaned in to read it. "It says he won't be back until noon, but it's already 2." Ran summarized the note. "Maybe he went somewhere with Heiji and Kazuha, and they lost track of time." Ran suggested.
That still doesn't explain why Kazuha, an overly courteous person, wouldn't call. You thought to yourself, as you examined the tape at the base of the door.
"No, it seems like they were waiting here for hours." Conan called.
"What makes you say that?" Kogoro grumbled.
