"So, there were others after the jewel..." You muttered. "No wonder Kid said he was busy."
Conan scowled. "You were talking to Kid?"
"Texting, but yes."
"About what?"
A mischievous smirk pulled up the corner of your lips. "He said he was sad I hadn't gone to see him."
Conan's expression soured, as you'd expected, but you also knew he couldn't say anything.
Your phone vibrated in your pocket. You grabbed it and checked the notification. Your expression darkened, a change that didn't escape Conan.
"What's wrong?"
"It's..." You took a breath and relaxed your expression. "It's nothing."
"Don't give me that." Conan growled. "When you start talking like that, you go off on your own, usually get hurt, and test my patience."
A chuckle escaped your lips. "I've sure become predictable." You let out a sigh. "Alright, I just got an alert from The Den."
"The Den?"
You looked at him wide eyed. "I'm sorry, I forgot it wasn't you I talked about that with." You shook your head. "The Den is what I started to call the first of my three... I guess you'd call them bases, or hideouts."
"You call it The Den?"
"Yeah, I gave them code names. It makes it easier for me to differentiate them when I get security notifications."
"You have three?"
"Yep, the Den, the Cave, and the Hovel."
"Those aren't exactly grand names." Conan chuckled.
"And they aren't grand places." You scoffed. "They're shitholes, but I can't just ignore it if someone broke into them." You let out a frustrated sigh. "I'll have to go check on it."
"I'm going with you."
You glared at him. "What makes you think I'd take a detective to my hideout?"
"Cause you don't know who set of your alarm, and they could be dangerous. Besides, if you don't take me with you, I'll either tell Ran that you're sneaking out, or follow you."
"You wouldn't."
"I would."
You stared him down, but he didn't blink. He returned your gaze with that infuriatingly charismatic grin of his. "Dammit!" You growled. "Fine, but if you breathe a word of this to anyone else, I won't talk to you for a month."
He held up his hand. "Scouts honor."
"Scouts honor only works if you were actually a scout."
"You know what I mean."

Against your better judgement, you brought Conan along. You took a taxi across town, before heading town into a subway station. It was abandoned due to how few people used it. Fortunately, the station was still just as empty. You stopped Conan at the bottom of the stairs.
"What is it?"
"I'm checking for security cameras."
Conan gave you an incredulous look. "You look like an elementary schooler."
You finished your scan of the small station and headed towards the tracks. "Yeah, which is why it would send up alarms when I do this." You jumped down onto the rails.
