Tobin's P.O.V.
Alex came and sat down by me. "Hey, Tobs." she said. "What's up?" "Nothing." I said. "Oh, come on, Tobin." Alex said. "I know you better than that. What's up?" I sighed. "It's Thalia." I said. "I want to apologize, but she won't let me. I've been trying for two years now. I've tried texting, calling, and FaceTiming, but she doesn't answer, and every time I try to talk to her face-to-face, she moves away from me." Alex sighed. "You hurt her, Tobin." she said. "And she's still hurting. She still cries herself to sleep some nights. You broke her heart, and it's gonna take some time for her to heal." "I really miss her, Alex." I said. "It was a stupid move to leave her for Cameron, especially since he turned out to be a dick. I guess it's karma, but I really want her back." "I'll try to talk to her." Alex said. "But it probably won't work." "Thanks anyway." I said. "No problem." Alex said. "I really hate seeing you two not talking to each other."
Alex's P.O.V.
I found Thalia sitting on a small cliff overlooking a river. "Hey, Squirt." I said gently, sitting down next to her and putting a hand on her shoulder. "I've been talking with Tobin." Thalia tensed. "What did she say?" "She wants to apologize, Thalia." I said. "She wants a second chance. She's been trying to apologize for two years now, but she says you won't hear her out. She really misses you." Thalia sighed. "I miss her too." she said quietly. "It's like my life's empty without her. I know I've got you and Abby and Hope and Carli and Pinoe, but it's just not the same without Tobin." "Why don't you let her apologize, then?" I asked. "Why don't you give her a second chance?" "Because I'm afraid, Alex." Thalia said. "I know I should hate her for this, but I can't. I still love her. I'm afraid to give her a second chance, because I don't want to get hurt again." "Well, just know that she still loves you too." I said. "I'll go tell her what you said."
Thalia's P.O.V.
After Alex left, I continued to sit on the cliff, my legs dangling over the edge, throwing stones into the water. This was my last year with the USWNT. Abby was retiring this year, and though I had a number of years left in my career, I was retiring with her. I would play club soccer. I'd signed contracts with both the Breckenridge Grizzlies and the St. Louis River Dogs that allowed me to alternate between teams. I would miss the team, all of them. No one knew except Abby, and I was going to keep it that way. On the day of my last game, which was the Women's World Cup Final, I raised my left hand to all the fans, the three middle fingers up. The last goodbye. No going back now. Not for anything.
