Let Me Try

"Are we ready?" Hope asked. Tobin, Carli, and Kelley nodded. Abby had been kidnapped, and the four women were going to find her. "Let's go, then." Hope said. she shouldered her pack and prepared to go, but a loud voice sounded. "Wait!" the group turned, and saw Thalia skywalker, Abby's little sister and Tobin's girlfriend, running towards them. A sword was at her hip and a bow was slung across her back. "You're going to look for Abby, aren't you?" Thalia asked. Hope nodded. "Let me go with you!" Thalia said. "No." Hope said immediately. "It's too dangerous. Anything powerful enough to kidnap Abby is not something that a fifteen year old can fight." "She's my sister!" Thalia protested. "She's always been there for me, and now she's in danger. I want to help!" "Hope's right, Thalia." Carli said. "this is way too dangerous." "I need to help Abby." Thalia said. "Please, let me go with you. I won't let you down. Just let me try." "You can't even fight, Thalia." Hope said. "I can too!" Thalia said indignantly. "Abby taught me to fight, and shoot, and throw knives. Plus, I can do magic." "She has a point, Hope." Kelley said. "Fine." Hope said. "Let's go." the group traveled for four days before reaching a cave. "She's in here." Thalia said. "How can you tell?" Kelley asked. "I just know." Thalia said. "She and Abby have a connection." Carli said. "If she says Abby's in there, I trust her." they went into the cave, and saw Abby chained to the wall. The warrior's shirt was torn and bloody, and Abby herself looked like she'd been dragged through hell backwards. "Abby!" Thalia said, running over to try and free her sister. "Thalia, watch out!" Abby yelled. Thalia turned and just managed to block an attack from Abby's captor, a giant demon. The girls started fighting, but they were outmatched. Hope leaped at him, and the demon swatted her away like an irritating fly. She landed hard on the cavern floor. The demon walked over and raised his sword to deliver the killing blow, but suddenly, there was a flash of light and the sword bounced harmlessly off of something. Hope raised her head, and saw Thalia standing above her, hand outstretched. She could faintly see a glowing blue outline under Thalia's hand. "Are you alright, Hope?" Thalia asked. "I'll live." Hope groaned. "Thanks." "No problem." Thalia said. The demon landed blow after blow on Thalia's magical shield, and Thalia was visibly straining to keep the shield up. "Let me help." Hope said. "No." Thalia said. "You're injured. Besides, I'm doing this to protect you." "You're going to be the first to die if he breaks through that shield, and Abby would never forgive me if I let her little sister die." Hope said. "You're in no condition to hold this." Thalia said. "He's about to break through!" Hope said. "I have a plan." Thalia said. As the demon rained the final blow on her shield, she threw a ball of energy into his chest. He disintegrated with a howl of rage, and Thalia ran to let Abby out. "I'm proud of you, squirt." Abby said. "Are you alright, Abby?" Tobin asked. "I'll live." Abby said. "Thanks." "No problem, sis." Thalia said, hugging her sister.
