An Interview with Thalia Skywalker

So, you're the youngest player on the U.S. Women's National Team. How has that affected your relationships with the other players?

It hasn't, really. Sure, I'm the youngest, but they don't really treat me differently. They do try and use it to explain my occasionally immature behavior, though.

Who are your closest friends on the team?

Abby Wambach, Hope Solo, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Tobin Heath. We're pretty much inseparable, and we've always got each other's back.

What is your go-to pump up music?

See, usually I don't need pump up music, I need chill out music. But during warm-ups, Fall Out Boy is my go-to.

What is the funniest moment you've had in a game since you've joined the team?

So, in the semifinals of the 2016 Olympics, we were playing China. I go up to the center circle to start the game, and one of the Chinese forwards says to the other, in Chinese, "It's so sad that they think players so young can beat us." I know Chinese, and I speak it fluently, so I say "I may be young, but I'm not too young to kick your asses." the looks on their faces were priceless. Also, there was that one time where we were playing Germany, and Kriegs and I were trash talking the hell out of the German players in German. They got really pissed at us and it was hilarious.

What do you think your teammates would say is your most annoying quality?

My inability to take anything seriously.

What is the funniest moment you've had off the field since you've joined the team?

Well, there was that one time where we shoved Hope and Carli in a closet to get them to confess that they were dating, which ended with me being held hostage by Hope. That was pretty funny.

What is your nickname on the team?

"Squirt "or "Jedi". Hope calls me "Kiddo". Occasionally they'll call me "Mini-Abby", but that's only because I sometimes make fun of Abby by acting like her.
