I woke up in a hospital bed. Tobin was sitting in a chair next to my bed, and she smiled when she saw that I was awake. "Hey, baby girl." she said, brushing a tendril of hair out of my face. "Hey, Tobin." I said. "What happened?" "You passed out a couple days ago." Tobin explained. "The doctors said that you have an infection in your chest. You should get better soon, though." But I didn't get better. I got worse. The chest infection wouldn't clear out. I got weaker and thinner, and I developed a hacking cough. Tobin would come and visit me every day, but one day, she had to leave for the World Cup. She showed me the USWNT jerseys, which had my initials, T. G. H, embroidered below the crest. We Skyped every day, and I would watch the games on the television in my room. When Tobin came back, she hung a gold medal around my neck. "We won it for you." She said.

Tobin's P.O.V.

Thalia was looking worse than ever before. She was thin and pale, and her green eyes no longer sparkled like they used to. "Tobin, will you-" she started to say before another wave of coughing racked her tiny body. "Will you still love me when I'm gone?" She asked. "Of course I will, baby girl." I said. "But you're not going anywhere. You're going to stay right here and cause all sorts of trouble." "No, I'm not, Tobin." She said. "The doctors said I wouldn't live past the end of this week." She hugged me. "I love you, Tobin." She said. "I love you too, Thalia." I said. Thalia fell asleep, but I still kept watch over her. Suddenly, I heard a long, high pitched beeping noise. I looked at Thalia's heart monitor. She was flatlining. "Thalia, no!" I cried. I took her lifeless hand in mine and sobbed. She was gone. Still sobbing, I pulled out my phone and texted Abby and Hope, telling them to come to the hospital. Ten minutes later, they were standing beside me. Abby put her arms around me. "I'm sorry, Tobin." She said. "I know what she meant to you." I just nodded, continuing to sob into her shoulder. After a while, I fell asleep. In my dream, I was in a dark room. There was a glowing light at the other end of the room. As I walked towards the light, I saw that it was Thalia, dressed in her uniform, looking like she was ready to get out on the pitch and play a game. She smiled at me. "Hey, Tobs." She said. "Hey, baby girl." I said. "How's it going?" "It fucking sucks here, Tobin." She said. "I'm not in physical pain anymore, but it hurts, because I can see you down on earth without me. I think they might let me come back, though." "I miss you too, Thalia." I said. Thalia tipped her head to the side, then grinned. "I have to go." She said. "No!" I cried. "Don't leave me! Please!" "I'm not leaving you, Tobin." She said. "Just wake up. You'll see." I felt someone shaking me, and I woke up to find myself back in my room, in my bed, arms wrapped around someone. Thalia. I lay there for a moment or two, letting Thalia's slow, steady breathing soothe me. Then, the events of the night before came rushing back to me. Wait, Thalia's breathing? She'd flatlined! Thalia rolled over in bed so she was facing me, and kissed me on the tip of the nose. I smiled. "Hey, baby girl." I said. "Hey, Tobs." Thalia said. "They decided to let me come back."
